Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige King.
Paige, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a small child, I was always fascinated with hair, while all of my other cousins would be outside playing I, along with my older cousin would be inside doing each other’s hair. As high school approached, my sister in law went to beauty school and I remember always wanting to go see her and watch everyone do hair. After high school, I had opportunities to go to college and play softball but, I knew hair was my passion. I graduated right in my 11 months and went on to work in salons. I have assisted many AMAZING stylists in Arizona, all the way from Scottsdale to Litchfield Park.
Assisting was super important to the career I now have because I was able to learn from all walks of life and ways of doing hair. I’ve been educating myself for 10 years now in this profession and I continue to learn every day. The best part is when clients ask me “if you didn’t do hair, what would you be doing?” My answer is always, nothing my passion and career are the same! It’s a blessing coming to work and getting to make women feel beautiful! That is my main goal.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been nothing short of a smooth road. Between struggling with personal growth, finding myself in my career and not being able to find a good fit salon, I bounced around a lot… even contemplating if doing hair was my future. I had stopped for 6 months and tried to go back to college. Well, that wasn’t working for me because I knew what I was meant to do, hair.
Until I finally had the opportunity to work with the girls I had been admiring since I was a kid. Mary Crow Hernandez and Jade Neal took me under their wing five years ago and completely changed my hair career. Now, I have been at Fringe with other stylists (Melissa Collins and Nicole Espinoza) that I also grew up watching. I am forever grateful for these ladies!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
Color, haircuts, Brazilian blowouts, extensions are what I specialize in. I will ALWAYS be honest with my clients about the health of their hair and if they are wanting something I cannot give them I will be upfront about it, I take so much pride in my work and don’t want them leaving with their hair falling out of their heads. The health of the hair is by far the most important thing a stylist could give a client.
It is so important to me to make all my clients feel like they are apart of my family and to feel as comfortable as possible. I share my life with them!!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Oh boy, so many… caring, honest, outgoing, kind, respectful. The list could go on. I love my clients and I want to be friends with them, through all the good and the bad. I have built so many friendships with clients it’s an amazing feeling getting off work and having them ask to go to dinner after. Or even better, get invited to their events! It’s such a surreal experience to get these amazing people as my clients.
