Meet Maximilian Biberger of AqualabZ in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maximilian Biberger.

Maximilian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started the company in the early 2000’s when I moved from the San Francisco, CA Bay Area to Arizona. After settling in and buying a house with a swimming pool I realized that pool maintenance in Arizona is crucial and a necessity due to the high temperatures. Reason being: The water in Arizona area is very hard to begin with, and if one overlays that with the high evaporation rates the swimming pool water becomes very hard after a couple of years and in turn maintaining the proper pool chemistry becomes very difficult and costly.

In order to resolve that problem the only remedy was to drain the pool. Given the huge number of swimming pools in the Southwest, the amount of water that is flushed down the drain on an annual basis is literally staggering. As I am very environmentally conscious it was bothering me a lot to see how much water is wasted in a region that is arid and starved for water. So I started thinking about ways how to solve this problem. In the end, we came up with an improved Reverse Osmosis (RO) system that is portable and can be placed in a customer’s pool. We patented our novel technology and have by now several issued patents. AqualabZ was the first company in the entire USA to employ such a technology and we have by now nearly 1,000 customers and have treated as many pools.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
All things considered, it has been a fairly smooth ride, even though it took some time, in particular in the beginning, to convince pool owners to treat their pool water instead of flushing it down the drain.

Please tell us about AqualabZ.
We are known for two novel and innovative products:
As mentioned earlier, one of our products is the ecoKlear product that removes the hardness from swimming pools without having to drain them. We do have another product, the AquaVise. It is a pool water monitoring device that floats in the pools, or is fixed mounted in the pool pump area, and monitors the pool water chemistries such as Temperature, pH and Chlorine levels. It sends the data wirelessly to the customer’s handheld device and displays the data. If the pool chemistry is not within the specified parameters remedial steps are recommended and sent to the customer via text message.

We are proud of being a TRUE innovator in the swimming pool industry and that are able to provide a water conservation tool to the Southwest region.

What sets apart is the uniqueness of our products.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Probably not much ..:-)))

  • The pricing for removing the hardness from swimming pools without having to drain them is $325 for pools of up to 25,000 gallons
  • The price for the pool water chemistry monitoring device will be $29.99 / quarter when we launch the product on Memorial Day of nextyear
