Meet Luisa Leon of Azlotusart in West Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luisa Leon.

Luisa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Luisa Leon. I was born in Mexico City. I moved to Arizona at the age of 13 and had to get adjusted to the changes fairly quickly. Since I had to work every day on my communication and the new language, I turned into art to express what my lack of words couldn’t.

I love art! I believe I got the passion for it from my mother’s brother. I have memories of being a little girl and getting excited for any art supplies. I have seen art as a hobby for most of my life until recently.

I resigned from my full time management job to officially open my business azlotusart. I learned firsthand how much art can help the soul, the mind, and the view in life. I want to provide the same feeling to others through azlotusart.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Being an artist is not a guaranteed career. There are so many wonderful artists around, it is easy to doubt myself sometimes. However, I have been blessed enough to have people and clients who believe in my art and the services azlotusart offers.

No mud, No lotus is my motto and I am convinced this is my purpose.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Azlotusart – what should we know?
Azlotusart is an outlet to “Art about it”. I offer my art, commissioned art, face painting, costume makeup, maternity body art, henna, and mobile paint parties. Those are my favorite! With mobile paint parties, I get to bring a concept and all the supplies to a determined location and I facilitate the painting session. It is wonderful to see the spark in some people’s eyes once they feel the brush against the canvas. Not everyone is familiar with the steps to take to experiment with paint, and I like being able to provide that to my clients.

The best advice I give to them is to not be afraid to mess it up. Art, just as life, is made out of the risks you take and the passion you put into it. At the end, you get the whole picture and can appreciate the road.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family is my foundation. Without them and the example they have set for me I could not be here. I have a beautiful, intelligent, happy daughter that gives me a reason to exist and live life to the fullest.

I have also been blessed with many wonderful, strong, determined women in my life. We have our circle of empowerment and we push each other every day. The support is priceless.
