Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Lambert.
Katie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was pregnant with my first child and my “friend pool” began to change. I am an older Mom, had my son at nearly 35, and my friends were either childless or had their kids much earlier in life so they weren’t in “newborn mode”.
I started the group MOMnation as a means to find friends in the area that we’re dealing with the very same things I was dealing with. It started with a handful of us and had since grown to nearly 6,000.
We started out by meeting up for play dates and sharing info, tips, and tricks online and have grown to hosting large events that receive national and international attention such as our “PromForParents” and our “Find your Soul MOM”, Speed dating event. We network for our businesses and focus on business growth for our Mom entrepreneurs. We have tons of giveaways. We have a blog full of local content. We run a monthly Farmers Market type event that features Moms that make, bake, grow or sew things and allow them to offer their items for sale. We also have a “Dear Abby” type podcast.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been somewhat smooth. We have experienced growing pains for sure and have struggled through rapid growth while doing our best to put the systems and infostructure into our process to make life easier for us and to grow and continue to serve our current followers.
We currently have nine board of directors and three managers.
MOMnation – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a one-stop resource for local Moms. We offer so much to our members such as local family friendly and “Mom” only events, a forum for connections, tips and tricks, a media outlet to share businesses and services, networking opportunities, a “Dear Abby” podcast, opportunities to win free gifts, exclusive savings and coupons from local businesses and a blog with tons of local content.
We are very proud of our growth and our ability to maintain a “judgment free” and “drama free” zone for our moms to grow and connect.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
The participation level of our Mom members is huge and is our gauge of our “success”.
