Today we’d like to introduce you to Jana Williams.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Photography is my saving grace. I am a southern girl, born and raised in a small town in Alabama. I did not come from a family of artist, and none gave me a camera when I was young, BUT my daddy raised us on the lake. The beauty of the light reflecting off the water, the stunning sunsets in that big southern sky, being raised in nature I think is what made me love light and color. After high school, I moved to New York City where I attended college and was really introduced to art. After four years I moved to LA still searching for my calling. I supported myself by waiting tables for almost 12 years. I started photographing my actor friends headshots here in La, and my career started to blossom so quickly. I was working with talent agents and modeling agencies photographing their clients. One day one of my regulars at the restaurant asked if I would be interested in photographing her wedding. I agreed and flew to New Hampshire and captured one of the most beautiful weddings I had ever seen. The wedding got so much attention, it was published in a big magazine, an image from the wedding made the cover of Style Me Pretty Magazine, and I started getting so much business. Isn’t life so funny? In a million years I would have never thought I was going to be a Wedding Photographer, but I have never been so good at something. It is a perfect fit for me.
Please tell us about your art.
I am a lifestyle photographer specializing in Weddings. I make moments last for a lifetime. I create family heirlooms that will be cherished for generations. I am blessed with a few natural talents: What I see through the lens & how I make my subject feel. I think both talents came from true love. I have a deep love for family, and I know how important these memories are. I think from that grew this talent to capture the emotion and have a sense of when something so sweet is about to happen on a wedding day. I also have a deep desire to show people ( woman especially) how beautiful they are. I want their lives to be changed after seeing the photos and feeling beautiful. I believe that drives me to go the extra mile with my clients and create the best images.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Yes, I do. When I picked up a camera and started shooting, I never dreamed about making money. I just wanted to create beautiful photos and grow as an artist. I get a lot of beginners talking allot about money. My advice would be to learn your craft, become best friends with your art, always be a student, always grow. The money will come.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
