Meet Derick Vogel of Credit Absolute in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derick Vogel.

Derick, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was let go from Quicken Loans in 2010 I didn’t know what I was going to do. I was a mortgage loan officer for ten years before I started Credit Absolute. I saw challenged credit reports every day and didn’t have a trusted credit counseling and education company to refer my clients.

I realized after using these credit repair companies that there had to be something better out there. The credit companies were all the same; charging a big amount upfront or charging monthly fees with no real action plan.

After months of research, I decided there wasn’t an existing company that met my standards. I decided to step away from the corporate world and help a friend with their company that was a form of credit repair. I decided after a few months this was not a good fit for me either. So I started researching the best credit software companies for credit repair. I found a company that trained in credit education and provided superior CRM and credit tools to track and monetize the client’s credit profiles. So I created Credit Absolute in 2012. Credit Absolute provides education on how the credit scoring models work while behind the scenes we work on helping remove inaccurate, unverifiable or outdated items.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. If you’re a business owner then you should know that doesn’t exist. There are struggles in business as there are in life. When I started the business all I knew how to do was sell. I didn’t know what a P&L was or a balance sheet was. I thought Brand meant your logo.

I had no system and processes in place and just trusted I had the vision to create the best credit counseling business in the industry. Struggles were hiring, business location, funding, payroll and all the above. Personally being a single father was a challenge but that’s my drive and focus to not let my son down. Being able to have the flexibility to work my own schedule was nice but it took time to understand the time management.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We focus more on education than credit repair. Credit repair is a byproduct of what we do. If clients don’t understand the fundamentals of credit scores and how the scoring system works then credit repair is pointless. We specialize in providing an education that can be applied for life and building a personal relationship with our clients. We are known for caring first and not treating our clients like a number. I am a smaller company because I prefer quality over quantity.

I am most proud of my team and partners that support us. If it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t be here. We have earned some great accolades over the past eight years. 5x best credit counseling service in Scottsdale, 4x people love us on yelp award, A+ rating with BBB organically, and some of the highest reviews on google. We are consistent in what we do through our certifications and education. We offer the most resources for our clients from certified credit coaches, attorneys, real estate, mortgage bankers, car refinance, debt consolidation, tax attorneys and student loan programs.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I believe our city is a great place for credit businesses. There are already quite a few here. Many are like the ones I didn’t enjoy working with when I was a banker though. Charging many fees and not providing education or resources.
