Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Causey.
Brittany, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up, I was always interested in health. I remember bringing home books on eating vegetarian from the library in 5th grade which was unusual for a kid growing up in small town, meat and potatoes Minnesota. As I got older and began exploring career options, I explored the medical school and physician’s assistant programs. After much reading and talking to people in those professions, I learned that many of them were only allotted a few minutes per patient and had to stay focused on the issue at hand with little time to discuss diet, exercise, and lifestyle.
My mom had taken me to see a couple of different chiropractors growing up. I had great results with back and shoulder pain but also, surprisingly to me at the time, with digestion. They educated me not just on my posture but also on a diet, nutrition, and supplements. As soon as I realized that medical school wasn’t going to be a good fit for me, chiropractic school seemed like the obvious choice. The curriculum involved all the difficult science classes that I enjoyed (anatomy, physiology, microbiology, histology, etc.) along with nutrition, therapeutic exercises, and so much more. Within chiropractic, there are many different specialties which means you can constantly be learning, growing and evolving. I had also been interested in business growing up, going to a business entrepreneur camp at one point in high school and taking many classes at the business school in college. A career in chiropractic would allow me to one day own my own business which I loved the idea of!
After chiropractic, school I spent eight years as an associate chiropractor for an office that eventually grew into a physical medicine office. The office had full time physician’s assistants and a variety of equipment for therapeutic exercises. I learned so much during my time there and loved collaborating in an integrated setting.
During those eight years, I realized that while I loved working with all patients, my passion was for working with pregnant women and children. When space opened up in Blossom Birth’s Wellness Center, it seemed like the perfect location to begin Causey Chiropractic.
Has it been a smooth road?
Because of my love of business and entrepreneurship, I wanted to start my own business as soon as possible. Financially, that wasn’t an option right out of school and then life just kept happening, different circumstances prevented me from leaping into entrepreneurship. During that time, I kept dreaming and envisioning what I wanted my future office to look and feel like. I felt frustrated at the time, but looking back, I am so grateful for the timing and know that I am a much wiser business owner and chiropractor because of those years I waited. I felt like once the timing was right, things flowed smoothly.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Causey Chiropractic is a chiropractic office focusing on prenatal, pediatric and family wellness care. I am trained in a technique called Webster’s which is a specific chiropractic analysis and way of adjusting that is useful and safe in pregnancy. We have a comfy couch and toys for the kids. My favorite thing is having an entire family come to get adjusted together and the parents can relax while the kids color and play. We are next door to Blossom Birth Center and share the Wellness Center with The Milk Spot and Physically Meta massage. I love that we can be a one stop shop for many of our pregnant moms and families with new babies.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I have had a great experience in Phoenix since starting Causey Chiropractic a few months ago. I have reached out to many other small business owners to connect and have been overwhelmed by their encouragement and how open others have been to share their experiences and advice. I think Phoenix is a great place to start if you are open to reaching out to others.
