Meet Bridgett McGowen of BMcTALKS in East Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridgett McGowen.

Bridgett, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Since 2002, I have been a professional speaker and have made hundreds of presentations all across the country and around the globe, reaching thousands of professionals in corporate America and students, faculty, and administrators at four-year and two-year universities and colleges. Prior to launching BMcTALKS, LLC, I was a faculty development consultant and, I made stops in over 30 states, one United States territory, and multiple countries where I facilitated professional presentations. It was during this time I realized making presentations and providing presentation skills coaching to professional women was what I wanted to do on a full-time basis for myself.

The very moment of this realization came when a friend, who is also a business-owner, saw me present at a conference in New Orleans in 2013. She immediately told me I should start my own public speaking company and that if I didn’t, then she was going to buy my domain name, wait for me to come to my senses, then charge me a million dollars for the web address! LOL! Years later, I started my business, BMcTALKS, and I’m thankful that friend planted the idea in my head … and that she was only teasing me about that domain purchase!

The doors to my company opened in April 2016, and thus far, as the owner of BMcTALKS, I have performed training, keynotes, coaching, and development for 35 different companies, educational institutions, and organizations and have made presentations to more than 2,600 professionals and students.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has had more smooth places than rough ones, which has been incredible. The number one obstacle I faced in the beginning process of starting my public speaking and presentation skills coaching firm was knowing WHERE to start. Do I need a website? Should I speak for free? If so, then how often? Do I form an LLC? The questions went on and on.

Now that I’m over 2 years in, the questions are different. Do I hire a team? How do I find the right talent? How much energy should I put into social media? How do I best position myself so others can learn about how I can help them and their organizations?

Finally, I resolved I would take it one step at a time; engage with others who were once similarly situated and who succeeded; and learn as much as possible about business ownership, networking, and marketing.

And I quickly learned the following: Do not wait for the perfect moment or for everything to be perfect. Take one step, then another, and simply keep moving forward.

Please tell us about BMcTALKS.
BMcTALKS is unlike any other public speaking firm because participants in my presentations do not just sit and listen to a good talk. They stand. They clap. They shout!

And in the BMcTALKS Academy, clients can learn exactly what I do and how I do it. I do not keep my powerful presentation skills a secret; my clients of professional women know exactly how to take to the stage and be the most impactful communicators in their industries. Hands down!

My background as a higher education faculty member and my extensive knowledge of and ability to apply adult learning theory to everything I do sets me apart from others in my industry because I know how to create and deliver a well-designed experience that will not just provide information but that will also provide transformation in busy, hard-working professionals.

I give you my personal guarantee that if you engage in one of my presentations or team-up with me as your presentation skills coach, then you will get excited about making changes and growing in your profession. I promise it will be a good time … and learning will take place, too!

That’s the BMcTALKS difference of which I am most proud!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood was graduating from high school and preparing to attend college. I knew that was my moment … this was my chance … this was my ticket to further my education, connect with others, and pursue opportunities that had only been dreams up to that moment.
