Meet Alene Geed of Alene’s Adornments in Chandler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alene Geed.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Jewelry design meandered into my life gradually. My first designs used memory wire to create bracelets. The multiple coils were fun to experiment with… and I loved wearing the finished designs. Then I began seeing other possibilities and designs that I just HAD to unleash. I took classes and absorbed every bit of knowledge possible. I started with the basics in wire wrap and morphed into more advanced metal work.

At this point I knew I had found my passion. Working with copper and silver hooked me completely. There was no turning back now! Gems and metal are a permanent part of my existence. Design Ideas are everywhere. My niece once asked how I came up with all the new designs. I thought about that and answered. “The Ideas keep coming and literally will not stop”

My head spins sometimes thinking of all the possibilities.

My book, Inside the Mind of a Jewelry Designer chronicles my journey into passion and creativity. The book is a labor of love. And in itself another emotional journey for me. I work on my creations in my Arizona Studio.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The design journey has been smooth, challenging and fun.

Developing this into a business is where the bumps are more evident. Since I was still working my Marketing job full time, I had to grab moments from my personal time to form this into a viable business. I first started by creating a web site and web store. This project alone seems to present constant challenges. How do we get potential customers and buyers to my site? I am very active on Social Media. This has helped tremendously.

Early on I experimented with exhibiting at local art fairs. While there were some fine moments and sales from this endeavor. I ultimately found that it was not an avenue I wanted to continue to pursue.

Now my focus is on two areas: online sales and wholesale account growth.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Alene’s Adornments – what should we know?
I create artisan jewelry designs using sterling and fine silver, copper and gemstones.

I adore starting with a copper or sterling sheet’ deciding upon the texture and overall design for the piece. And ultimately adding a gemstone that enhances the design and speaks to me as well.

I feel the ‘rightness’ of the particular piece as the design takes shape. I tend to create in collections. Each collection has a special story that describes the process and allows the wearer to feel the love ingrained in each design

I am most proud of allowing myself to live a passionate existence through this journey.

My book, Inside the Mind of a Jewelry Designer is another project that fills me with pride. When I began that journey, I thought it was something worth pursuing. But I did not expect the impact it would have on my life. Sharing my inner thoughts with the public gave me more insight into myself.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My biggest supporter was and still is my husband Bill. When we first got married (in the mid 90’s) this business and passion did not exist. It was not until the mid-2000’s that this love of design became overwhelming and life enhancing.

I am so blessed that Bill saw my changes and was able to encourage me to continue. This business has changed our lifestyle tremendously. Yet BIll understood that this was a necessary journey for me.

Today, we are closer than ever because of his unselfishness.
