Today we’d like to introduce you to Marla Giordano.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started baking when I was seven. My grandma taught me how to make brownies, chocolate chip cookies, and Italian pizelle cookies. I quickly fell in love with baking and started teaching myself. I watched videos, tried new recipes, and began perfecting my skills. I was always the one to bake for family and friend events. I was always up for a challenge, so I learned to perfect the French macaron at the age of 15. After high school, I started working at a bakery as it was my dream to start my own one day. When covid hit and I lost my job, I took a leap of faith and decided to move to Phoenix from San Diego and start my home bakery.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way
You can’t succeed without failure along the way. It took a lot of trial and error with different recipes. I spent hours tweaking and perfecting the recipes I use today. I’ve always had a fear of fondant, but I quickly conquered that fear as I decided I wanted to offer totally custom cupcakes.
We’ve been impressed with Marla’s Cupcakes, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Marla’s Cupcakes was created with one goal in mind: creating the best possible product for our customers. We work hard to provide exceptional, quality products and service. We specialize in custom and gourmet cupcakes, but we decided to offer hot cocoa bombs during the cooler season, and they have become our signature offering. We use 100% coverture chocolate and hand make each one. A lot of love and hard work goes into making each chocolate bomb and each cupcake. We are very grateful for our customers and how fast the community has helped our small business grow since August.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the community of Scottsdale/Phoenix. They are always very supportive of small businesses.
