Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Donohue, ND, PAK.
Whitney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Like most people, their personal experiences provide them the drive to make a change or impact. Personally, I always needed something different than what was offered in the allopathic medical model, especially in the sport and performance arena. I basically became the doctor that I always needed. Being healthy and active but always seemly injured from constantly pushing my body to do more, I was only offered two options: Rest/ice/ibuprofen or surgery.
I was never injured enough for surgery but needed more for injuries and recovery than just rest and ice. The need for something different became blatantly obvious when I suffered a serious back injury and I couldn’t get any help or answers I needed, beyond pain medications and exploratory surgery. So, I started searching for more and this lead me to natural medicine, acupuncture, and more, eventually landing me in Naturopathic Medical School, where I focused on PAIN.
But I was not interested in “pain management” I was interested in pain ELIMINATION!! Still, on my own pain journey during medical school, I jumped at any opportunity to experience different techniques, thought processes, and the possibility of eliminating my residual pain.
On this journey, I not only became pain-free, I got my active life back but I dedicated all my free time (which is very minimal in medical school) to learn all the techniques (outside of what was offered in the medical curriculum) that helped me become pain-free because I knew I needed to learn them, to help other people become pain-free as well! To say, I became obsessed is an understatement!
I knew I found something different and it was going to change the way we recover and treat athletes and get people out of chronic pain without pain meds and surgery! Because these techniques are somewhat outside of the box, even for a Naturopathic Doctor, I decided the only way I was going to be able to help people in the way I knew how was to do it on my own!
So I launched my own practice in February of 2020 and what a ride it has been!!!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth Road?? What’s that? Haha.
No one ever tells you what it takes to launch your own business, let alone a health-based business at the start of a pandemic!! That obviously had its own challenges especially since everything I do to help treat patients is hands-on. But it also gave me an opportunity to really dive into my business and figure out what I really wanted, which direction to go, who I wanted to help, and how to do so in the best way.
It allowed me to automate and nail down the functions of my business that I think I would have otherwise struggled to navigate in the full swing of practice. I also was provided amazing opportunities that I never thought I would have received or been able to step into for another 5-10 years. One of the biggest struggles I think no one can prepare for is the evolution that your business takes on its own.
You think you know exactly who and how you are going to serve and you push so hard in that direction, but I think the beautiful part of helping people heal is that that is a natural evolution that occurs to really introduce you, to your most powerful gifts! Sometimes, we don’t understand them right away and it can feel like we’re going off course but it has been one of the best things for my business!
I continue to be open to its evolution so that I can best serve those I am meant to help guide with their health!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the lead physician and owner of Quantum Naturopathic Pain & Body Optimization. I am a Naturopathic Doctor and Professional Applied Kinesiologist who focus on keeping active people, active and pain-free! I practice differently than most in the Sports Medicine world, as my primary modalities are based around the amazing tool of muscle testing.
Applied Kinesiology and Muscle Testing have provided me with a completely different vision of what health and healing look like. These modalities not only changed everything for me personally but professionally because once you see how powerful the human body is in healing itself you can’t unsee it, you can’t ignore it, you must figure out how to harness it & since finding those tools, I’ve never looked back.
I love muscle testing because every time someone gets up from the table they have immediate improvement in multiple areas: Decreased pain, improved range of motion, improved mobility, etc. Getting people back to doing all the things they love the most is truly the most rewarding thing I can do.
Muscle testing provides the ability to evaluate, assess, and treat the body like no other technique, providing the body with exactly what it needs, no more and no less, allowing the body to do what it is meant to do, and heal naturally!
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t think luck is a thing anymore.
I think hard work, and taking action that is intentional and in alignment with your purpose, knowledge, and natural abilities is what makes the difference between success and failure. And failure isn’t even a bad thing, most of the time it is just a pivot point for you to re-evaluate and make different decisions and take different actions.
Jumping on opportunities that present themselves or creating your own opportunities and going all-in is how you find success and happiness in both life and business. There’s no such thing as luck!
