Conversations with the Inspiring Lea Guillory

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lea Guillory.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lea. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I think our story really starts with Lauren (one of our founders). She’s had an idea for a magical business for a really long time and while she was in London we began discussing making that idea into a reality and what that might take. We are really just kind of ‘what-ifing’ and seeing if there was a possibility of this business even becoming something and before we knew it we were building it! And it just kind of took on this life of its own and started to present to us what it wanted to be. Lauren just kept creating magical products and we began to find a way get them to people and to get people excited (through our subscription box) and we’ve just been enjoying the process of creating a magical business as women entrepreneurs.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Creating a business is really hard work. It’s probably the hardest and most fun work there is! A business comes from an idea that you’re really passionate about and you really love and as you start to develop it into an actual business it can get hard because there are steps that you’re unsure of, or you feel like an imposter, or you don’t have all of the knowledge or processes in mind that would make this go perfectly smooth right away. It takes some time to figure it out it takes research and it takes a lot of hard persistent work to make a business. We are still in the process we are still developing our business we’re still figuring things out. We’re still doing the research and we’re still learning. Communication has been huge for us and we’re learning the best ways to communicate with each other and with our audience. The advice that I have for young women who are just starting their journey and business, is to keep going the world needs you! Trust yourself, do your research, keep learning, and stay open. It gets tough and sometimes you might feel like it’s too much work, and sometimes you may just want to throw in the towel! But it’s pushing past those points that build your business and that makes your dream a reality. It’s possible just keep on pushing! <3

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Make genuine connections with people and be open to learning. Everything shouldn’t always be a business interaction, or asking what others can do for you. Find the people you really admire and that just speak to your soul and learn from them. Reach out and tell them what you admire about what they do. Think about building a tribe rather than looking at your network like a business connection web. You never know what skills, resources, talents or connections people may have. I think they are more likely to offer those to friends and genuine connections rather than someone that want to use them to get ahead.

If you’re looking for a mentor I would say the best thing you can do is get really clear about what it is you’re looking for mentorship in. Saying I want to be mentored is great, it means you’re open to learning but be specific about what you want to gain and learn and a mentor that is fit for that position will begin to align with you. You will also be able to more accurately seek out the right mentor for you!

Don’t be afraid to reach out to people the worst thing they could say is no (and that is okay)!!!
