Check Out Roshan Spottsville’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roshan Spottsville.

Roshan Spottsville

Hi Roshan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve loved photography all my life; in 2010, it became more than a hobby. I started my business by taking photos for anyone who would let me for free, then for $25, and worked my way up to where I am today. I’ve been providing photography services to both families & businesses since then. My work has been published in multiple publications, on billboards, and featured in two museums. I specialize in Personal Brand Sessions for business owners and professionals, headshots, and graduation portraits. These sessions are my favorites because I am passionate about empowering youth, women, and small businesses. It allows me to photograph, support, and cheer them on. I also love to create family portraits, maternity portraits, engagement portraits, and event photography.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to where I am has been filled with amazing opportunities, but it took work. I’m self-taught with some advice from other photographers. This means that I’ve learned a lot by trial and error. When I look back on the photos I took early on, I sometimes shake my head because I am better technically now. The other thing is that it was less stressful when I was doing photography part-time and had my job to fall back on. When I left my job to be a full-time photographer, I was suddenly a marketer, social media specialist, accountant, and website designer. It was tough when this happened because I wasn’t just doing photoshoots and editing them; I had so many other hats to wear and went from working 40 hours a week to constantly working. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t change it for anything. I’d gladly make these sacrifices to run my own business, but you don’t realize how much goes into running a business until you have to do it.

Thanks – What else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I provide many photography services but specialize in Personal Brand Sessions (photo content for business owners and professionals) and Graduation Portraits. I love and enjoy these sessions because not only do I get to be their photographer, I get to be their hype girl and support them. What sets who I am as a photographer apart from others (not saying making me better or worse – just different) is my ability to shoot in various lighting and styles. Also, I provide different services so I am able to be your family photographer as well as your business photographer. I’m proud to be an Indigenous, Navajo, Woman-owned business owner and an example to others like me that it’s possible.

What are your plans for the future?
I plan to build the Personal Brand Sessions side of my business. I want to help people understand that they are the most valuable asset of their business, and showing people who they are is the best way to connect to your potential clients. The best way to do this is a session that we plan together so that they have a collection of cohesive images to use across their online presence, such as social media and their website. I work with my clients to be their photographer and a supporter of their business.
