Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Taylor.

Kathy, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Ever since I can remember, I knew there was more to life than meets the physical eye. It would be many years before I would be able to put it into words. The paintbrush has been my quill thus far. When the first horse emerged in one of my paintings, it was no surprise to find out that these beautiful symbols of strength, freedom, and power were just what I needed at the time. Horse had chosen me! While I paint, the horses meet me in that place where the invisible world meets visible reality bringing with them messages of hope and healing. Today, the words come easier and the horses still come to share their messages, waiting for the right person to discover them.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Most of my work starts without an initial drawing but is preceded by many hours of research and thought. The creative process begins with an idea bubbling into my consciousness. As the paint hits the painting surface, the images begin to reveal themselves. I prefer to work on a large format using Masonite or canvas. I may start by gluing paper to the board or by randomly applying colors to which I feel drawn. As the piece develops, the forms take shape. Gesso, paint and more paper are applied and the creative process begins all over again. It may take many weeks or months to complete a painting. In the end is a merging of horse and human.

How can artists connect with other artists?
Studio 6020 is my teaching studio and has expanded into a Center for Creative Development. It has become my connection with other artists. The environment is that of a salon where artists can develop their skills through classes while spending time with their peers.
