Today we’d like to introduce you to James B. Hunt.
James B, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Born. Am alive. Will die.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I make paintings. Sometimes I hide them for those who go hunting for them to find and collect. At last count, there were 96 paintings hidden throughout the Greater Phoenix area. I’ve been at it for decades. I also illustrate, print and distribute posters for bands and promoters who ask for them. There’s no message. I paint because it comes out of me. It’s either do this or sit in a hole and wait to die.
Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
I think the best thing a city can do for artists is to just stay the hell out of our way. I’m not interested in the sort of “encouragement” my city has to offer me. It isn’t real. My experience has been that they either want to control our narrative or push us out of the way. They’re never content to just let us exist.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I usually have a couple shows going at a time. If anybody’s interested, they can keep up on my Instagram or my website. I try to keep them updated.
