Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Manning.
Eric, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’m a full time Nephrologist who recently was introduced to painting three years ago. I had a strong interest in art through my early years but dropped it when my father got sick. I pursued a career in the sciences and then medicine.
So, I am all self-taught at this point. I was first introduced to acrylics which is new to me. This passion has progressed more recently to A few oil paintings. I have sold many of my pieces of art and intend to expand my repertoire.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
The easiest first paintings have been landscapes. These are forgiving topics and easiest for me. My goals are to try most every kind of landscape in order to expand my knowledge of nature and find my favorite themes. Over the last two years this has been: vineyards, fields and trees, winter and beach. I have done figures and mainly children and intend to do more.
My art has developed over the three years. I tend to paint realistic w a tendency to use Impressionism. Most of my work is up front and close to the viewer. I have begun to use more depth of distance in my work. My work uses bright colors. I do my best to paint non-traditional scenes and use movement and more freedom of the brush. Shadows and depth are an important aspect of my work.
The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Find a local establishment that will show your work for free. Hold events around these showings. Join activities in your community where art is encouraged.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I have many of my pieces on continual display at Robert Wood Johnson St Barnabas Hospital in NJ. I also show my work for two months out of the year in Flemington NJ at Lone Eagle Brewing. I encourage people to contact me directly using all my social web sites.
