Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Csakan.
Amanda, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was one of those kids who always knew what I wanted to do when I grew up. I spent hours designing for my dad’s small businesses, entrepreneurship runs in my family! After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, I went on to earn a Master’s in Communication Studies (which is literally the study of how humans communicate with each other). Thus, I was able to combine my two passions: design and people. After working with various nonprofits, I finally decided to take the leap and do what I had wanted to do all along: launch my own design studio. It quickly became clear to me that brand development is the perfect blend of both my design experience and my communication knowledge, so I decided to specialize in branding and focus on becoming more and more of an expert in that area.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I provide personal brand coaching, brand design, and web design for photographers and creatives. I help people clarify and strengthen their brand message, and then I design visuals such as their logo, visual identity, and website that strategically communicate that message. My mission is to empower each person I work with to own what makes them and their business distinctive, and to enable them to truly connect with the clients they love working with the most.
I love typography, colors, patterns, and all the little details that go into crafting a beautiful visual identity, but that’s definitely not what I love the most about my work. For me, in business and in life, it’s always been about people. There’s nothing like being able to get to know someone, to see the heart and vision behind their business, and to shine a light on that.
How can artists connect with other artists?
One of the best things I’ve done for my business, not to mention my own mental health, is to make friends with fellow creatives that are out there making it happen. So many creatives are afraid to step away from their computers and meet people. But the benefits are absolutely worth it.
My best advice is to take the time to find those people and build those relationships in whatever way works best for you. I found my amazing support network through the local Phoenix chapter of Tuesdays Together, which is part of the Rising Tide Society. There are many similar meetups throughout Phoenix. If those types of groups intimidate you, I recommend reaching out someone local you admire through social media and asking them to get coffee. I’ve made some amazing friends that way.
Honestly, I am continuously blown away by how the creative community here in Phoenix supports each other and lifts each other up. I had never experienced anything like it before I moved here three years ago, and I can’t stop bragging about it to my out of state friends. So definitely don’t be afraid to get plugged in.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
