Check out Alex Rico’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Rico.

Alex, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve always had energy for creativity and one year in high school I got a dslr camera for Xmas which resulted as my creative outlet. Started practicing on family and friends until others started acknowledging my work and wanted my style of photography to represent their important life events from senior portraits, engagements, weddings, lifestyle photos, & branding.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My scope of art involves ceramics, painting, cooking, DJ but most importantly graphic design & photography. I’ll spontaneously take my camera on adventures to photograph people or objects, once satisfied with the photos I captured I’ll go into editing mode until I find the right colors for each individual photo. This is where it gets fun because after they are edited I add graphic design into my photos to give them their unique look that I go for which is known as “moody photos.”

The message I hope to give to my audience is to never do something for the superficial of it, therefore, I have depth and meaning within my photos by taking the extra steps of using graphic design & connecting each photo with an uncommon inspirational quote. Which is probably why a few people have called me a photo-therapist! I hope people understand my art is not just another picture to glance at but a feeling they receive from it, tied to a quote that will help them with their everyday or simply bring awareness to them.

Also, something extra, I keep down low is that I DJ in downtown Phoenix as my alias Xela, I normally mix minimal melodic techno for lounging and dancing. I have combined my love for both mixing music and photography by making album artwork covers for DJs and music label companies.

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
My best advice for artists in general is to stay true to their art and truly make it their own because only originality will survive.

Don’t take shortcuts, your path is a certain length for a reason.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
You can currently see my work on my website/ Facebook page/ Instagram or you could come listen & support me while I mix music which I normally play in downtown phoenix. The best way to support my photography work is to hire me for life events: graduation, engagement, wedding, lifestyle shoot, or branding!
