Art & Life with Jose Acevedo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Acevedo.

Jose, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
In graduate school, I was screen printing for another business, while there I met a series of business owners. After learning their stories, I decided to pick up a couple of microphones and record them down. During the first episode, I found myself at ease behind the conversation and knew that this was something I wanted to take up. After honing my skills for about six to eight episodes we took the challenge from friends who own businesses to complete strangers that might be interested in wanting to come on the show. The influx of requests started to take on a life of its own and we haven’t looked back since.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I have always grown up around storytellers. Growing up on the Hopi reservation, I spent a great deal of time hearing tales and myths. When I was in college “podcasting” became a new form of media that I found myself interested in. My hope is that this is part of my own legacy and my own storytelling. I hope that people take away from every podcast a sense of relationship towards the business/owner. I want everyone to understand that our priority is to have an enjoyable time with everyone. Our ultimate intention is to highlight and inform the community.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
Do what you can with what you have. Mastery of any art takes practice and time. Buy the essentials to begin your journey and work every day to get better from there.
