Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Britton.
Daniel, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Storytelling through my camera is where my
photography begins…
I am a Sedona based freelance adventure photographer and jeep owner. I have spent the years of my life building, not only memories but experiences that have created a pretty exciting story. Adventure was introduced into my life at a young age when my family moved to Jackson Hole, WY where giant towering mountains with endless amounts of outdoor sports and adventures surrounded everyday life. I learned about mountaineering at the age of 14 and climbed the South and Middle Teton by the age of 15 when I picked up my first camera and was introduced to photography. Being a hobby for many years to come, photography then became a place of serenity for me, before turning into a career. After choosing to pursue this passion as a career, I was asked to print and display several pieces of art in a major Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. It was a great honor and opportunity to share my art with the world. Since then, I have been pursuing ways to, not only create epic memories for myself, but also for my clients and those that want more than just your average photo shoot but are looking for an adventure. Photography, for me, got far beyond simply taking a photograph. It is recreating that feeling of standing on the edge of an enormous cliff overlooking a truly spectacular view with the sun setting in the distance. It is in finding untainted territory, where you not only walk away with that lasting memory but a truly gorgeous photo. Years ago, I set out to create a life of less stuff, that leads to more of life. And the journey has been amazing.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Photography, for me, started out as a hobby when I was young, and over time morphed into a place where I found peace. More than simply taking a photograph, I wanted to create a photo that communicated the feeling I experienced when I took it. Over time I began to incorporate my passion for photography with my love for adventure, taking my camera with me backpacking, exploring back roads in my jeep, and through many unique slot canyons on canyoneering adventures. Incorporating that same mindset and experience for my clients became one of my top priorities to making a lasting memory that they can take with them after booking a photo shoot with me.
Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
Being an artist in this day and age comes with its challenges for sure. With the pressure we put on ourselves to create unique and engaging content for social media, I feel like it can limit our potential as creatives. Before social media algorithms, and concerns with likes, and comments, I personally feel like it was easier to simply go out and create my art. Getting back to communicating the emotion through my art is what has become my priority and delivering that to not only my clients but to my followers on my social networks. I think that finding ways to support local art communities and artists through art exhibits, art walks, and the local businesses are a few good ways to helping artists survive in the current climate.
