Small Business of the Day: Conversations with Dr. Chelsea Matteson and Dr. Katherine Sanchez

Today’s Small Business of the Day features an interview with Dr. Chelsea Matteson & Dr. Katherine Sanchez. Please find our conversation below.

We’re thrilled to have the chance to ask you some fun questions today, but before we get started, can you introduce InSight Psychology to our readers.
Located in North Scottsdale, InSight Psychology offers evaluations, specialized therapy, and individualized learning services for children, teens, young adults, and families.

Our practice is centered around offering approaches that are solidly based on research and have been shown to be effective and practical so that therapy doesn’t have to be a lifelong commitment. Instead, our families see change and feel rewarded as they witness their child flourish. Our hope is that we can walk side-by-side with families while offering them the tools that they need to help their children thrive. We provide effective therapy for anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety, social anxiety, separation anxiety, phobias, OCD, perfectionism/rigidity), teen depression, and young child ADHD and disruptive behaviors.

Additionally, if your child is struggling at school or you’ve had parents gut-feeling that there is something else going on, we also specialize in formal and child-focused evaluations for ADHD, learning differences, Autism, giftedness/2E, and other neurodevelopmental concerns.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned building your business that you can share with those just starting out in their entrepreneurial journey?
Be Proactive and Take Initiative: One of the most critical lessons is the importance of being motivated and willing to take decisive action. As an entrepreneur, you can’t wait for opportunities to come to you; you must create them.

Embrace Uncertainty: The path of entrepreneurship, especially for a woman-owned business, is often unpredictable. Learning to navigate and grow comfortable with this uncertainty is key to adapting and thriving.

Confidence and Risk-Taking: Building a business requires a certain level of risk tolerance. Believing in yourself and your vision is essential, as is the willingness to take calculated risks to move your business forward.

Seek Out Mentorship: No one builds a business in isolation. Seeking advice and guidance from established business owners and mentors can provide invaluable insights and help you avoid common pitfalls.

Prioritize Compassion and Clarity: In dealing with patients, especially in service-oriented businesses, it’s crucial to balance compassion with straightforward communication. This approach builds trust and establishes a strong reputation.

Engage with Your Community: Direct engagement with your target audience, such as parents and caregivers, can foster a strong connection and understanding of their needs, which is vital for business growth.

Network Beyond Your Immediate Field: Diversifying your professional network can open up unexpected opportunities and perspectives that can benefit your business in the long run.

Adopt an Inviting and Educational Marketing Strategy: Marketing that educates while it engages is more likely to resonate with potential clients. Ensure your marketing materials are accessible, vibrant, and informative to attract a broader audience.
