Tamara, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of work I enjoy being active with gym time, outdoor walks, golf, and spending time with family and friends.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Tamara Bickley, makeup artist and owner of Makeup Artistry by Tamara, LLC. I provide professional makeup services for all special occasions, including but not limited to weddings, events, film, T.V., commercials, print media and special effects. I offer private and group makeup lessons. And I offer my own brand of vegan, chemical-free, custom makeup and skin care called Tami B. Custom Makeup.
Owning a custom makeup and skin-care line is unique in that I meet with clients personally to create their perfectly matched foundation, and guide them with my expertise of the most optimal products for each of them individually.
I recently experienced an exciting adventure to France and Italy aboard the Celebrity Adventures Ritz Carlton Yacht Cruise, where I did makeup on celebrities.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a newspaper journalist in Chicago at the Chicago Sun-Times before changing course toward makeup artistry. I was always interested in cosmetics, transformations, and the creative side of makeup.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t be intimidated by being the least knowledgeable person in the room. Embrace it and be thankful to learn from those who know.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The beauty industry is saturated with quick fixes, products, images, and personal accounts of how products have helped people achieve their best selves. Achieving health, contentment and real beauty does not come from any of those. There is no face cream or lip gloss that will fix your poor health, toxic relationships, bad skin, low self worth, worries, financial despair or any issue.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retire tomorrow, my loyal customers will miss my custom foundation! Since I launched my makeup line in 2015, I’ve created personalized makeup for several thousand clients/customers. These are customers for life.
