Story & Lesson Highlights with Reggie Blaze

Reggie Blaze shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Reggie , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity – No questions asked. You can have nothing left in life, but you will always have your character. I believe integrity is a major part of what defines your character in life

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Reggie Blaze, a hip hop artist, rapper, creative, music lover, father, many things. Personally I have a hard time describing myself because I think what I may feel might not translate to the perspective of the outside eye. I definitely always come from a place of authenticity and I try to create art that reflects my experiences and feelings, in hopes it connects with the listener. I’d like to consider myself a “real” hip hop artist, I love the genre

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I’ve always been Blaze. I think everybody has moments in life where we are pushed down or forced into feeling like we have to conform to something. A lot of people also have times where they are easily influenced by people and the things around them, but I always found a way to come back to being myself. I still have to practice at being proud of who I am, unapologetically; but I always come back to me

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Everything that I value about my life. I’ve learned gratefulness, resilience, compassion, courage, and strength. The struggles I’ve went through have defined my purpose in life. I don’t always know exactly what that is, but I try to make a change for the better in my own life, and I’m there for anyone who needs someone, because I know what it’s like to lose, to feel alone, and to wonder. I thank God I’ve been through what I have because I’ve made it through with wisdom and strength when I need it most

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Family is everything. Family is more than the people related by blood, it’s the foundation of the people in your life that care for you, eat with you, struggle with you, may fight with you but will always fight for you. The people who care for you should always be more important than anything material

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The ones that truly know me, I hope they tell their truth, I believe it will be mostly good things, but I think nobody will say that I didn’t keep it 100. I always stood on my best principles, from a place of good heart and intention, and I always spoke my truth
