Story & Lesson Highlights with Jennifer Dominguez of South Phoenix

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jennifer Dominguez. Check out our conversation below.

Jennifer, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I will forever wandering. Staying on the path is definitely on the safe side but playing it safe has never been for me. I like to see what I can get into by wandering.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jennifer Dominguez and I run an Instagram page called Rock ‘N’ Roll Arizona. It’s a promotional page where I share events that are going on around the valley. Mostly shows including metal, punk, hardcore, from huge bands to local bands. I also host ticket giveaways to these shows so that everyone has a chance to attend. I use this platform to highlight a lot of our local music scene, we have a ton of great Arizona bands that people should check out! What makes my instagram page unique is that it’s specifically for Arizona, so you get information about what’s going on in your own backyard.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents of course. Growing up in a Hispanic household you are taught that if you want something you need to put in work and if you still don’t have it, you continue to put in work. If you’re tired or feeling defeated it’s not really an excuse to stop. It’s going to be hard and you’re not always going to like it but it will be such a great payoff in the end. I watched them work hard to take care of my siblings and I so that motivated me to work for what I want or need.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
That you can achieve anything that you put your heart into. Do not be scared to take that leap.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I believe my friends would say that music really matters to me. It always has. Music is my entire life, it’s my earliest memories, it’s what keeps me going in life. As silly as it might sound to say it does rule my entire existence. Since I was a kid I would go home, turn on the tv and watch music videos all day. Music is always there for you.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
My hope is that they are able to say that I was able to help them. Whether I was able to provide them with free tickets to a show they really wanted to go to or help them get more exposure by sharing their flyer on my page.
