Story & Lesson Highlights with Jay Monday

We recently had the chance to connect with Jay Monday and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Jay, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Hawaiian drums subtly alerts the senses that’s it time to rise & shine. From there it’s GO GO GO. Checking the phones to confirm everyone is moving & putting out any fires that may have popped up between laying my head down & rising with the rooster’s crow. Once I know things are under control, it’s off to my home duties which consist of making coffee & getting the dogs set up on their morning regiment. A couple minutes of bliss making coffee and pouring that initial cup sparks a little happiness and helps set the pace for anything the world throws at me. From there the phones go live and it’s time to help our customers get the best in quality & service.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Jay with The Cooling & Plumbing Co. We specialize in Air conditioning, plumbing & gas piping. Energy efficiency in air conditioning is important to me because I want our customers to not only save money on their power bill, but expect the quietest & longest lasting equipment on the market. Perfectly cooled rooms with no uncomfortable hot rooms.

For plumbing we are all about the best in technology improving the condition of the home so our customers can truly enjoy their safe place. Tankless water heaters providing endless hot water, salt free water softeners that are environmentally friendly & actually protects the customers skin & their home’s plumbing. Remodeling kitchens & bathrooms and turning them into masterpieces the customers can’t wait to show off to all of their friends, family & even strangers because they are so happy and in love with their homes!

Gas piping is my baby, whether it’s natural gas or propane, we’ve got you covered! Above ground and below ground propane tanks, gas lines to pool heaters, ranges/cook tops, tankless water heaters, BBQ and awesome fire features. If you love entertaining, we want to make your backyard mind blowing! Another great reason to show off to everyone you know to include those neighbors dying to see what all the commotion is.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My Dad has been my rock & mentor my entire life. He’s the kind of man that if he shakes your hand, the job gets done and done right. The best example of honor and integrity a son could ever ask for. From childhood to being the man I have become today, he has always guided me and shaped me. A plethora of knowledge bestowed upon me from this great man. I was fortunate to have him see me serve my country & then come home and serve my community. Every year I have dedicated myself to winning awards no other company wins and winning them consecutively and that’s how I honor my Dad. His random compliments and acknowledgment of my actions warming his heart is the driving force that feeds my soul. I’m now on the same path watching my legacy grow and take over this amazing company I have built and my Dad’s lifelong efforts of shaping me and now guiding me as I pass the torch.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I’m not a quitter and when I set my mind to something I achieve it. I have however thought about the path I have chosen and from time to time wonder if I where I would be or if it would have made me happy. When I was younger I played baseball and had the opportunity to go to college and play baseball but I wanted to go to the military so I always wonder if I would have made pros and if I would have made it on my favorite MLB team. While serving I fell in love with flying in helicopters and even got the chance for a little stick time. I applied for the warrant officer program, got approved but I only had 4 months before getting out and I would have to reenlist. I chose not to reenlist but I think about what it would be like to be flying choppers on the daily. I have even thought about going back into government work once or twice but the sacrifice to my family’s needs and my time I would be able to give them outweighed the desire for a change. At the end of the day I’m content with the path I have chosen but it is nice to dream of a different path from time to time.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Honor & integrity. Growing up watching my Dad be a pillar in the community and to our family set the pace for following the same path. From serving my country to serving my community, nothing is more important than people knowing your name and word means something & can always be trusted. My friends know I will always do what’s best for everyone, not just myself. I’m on a life winning streak and I cannot ever let my parents down so the option of being dishonest is not an option for this guy.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If immortality were real, what would you build?
I think as we age we dream and wish for immortality. Focuses change from building empires to building memories. If I had the ability to be immortal I would take it in a heart beat. I love life and I wish I could travel the world meeting people, enjoying cultures, learning and eating amazing food! I would build the most amazing photo album of all of my adventures and encourage everyone to focus on living life and enjoying the perfect memories we make with family & friends.
