Baba, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
Work, Gym, and more work. I always try to keep myself busy with something. Whether it’s music, my brand, etc.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Baba Desta. I’m an recording artist born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. I do a lot, like event promoting, vlogging/streaming, but my main gig is always music.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks bonds (from what I see and also experienced) is miscommunication. It’s never a matter of who’s right or wrong but moreso just misunderstanding in the midst. What restores it is… communication. It’s hard to give a general answer on that question but miscommunication plays a part in a lot of things.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Easy answer is yes. But I always find myself coming back to creating and I feel like in some way will always be something that I do.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes and no. Yes because I don’t ever try to portray myself in a different light than who I really am. But also no because I keep most of my personal life off of public eye, so it’s not easy knowing me only from what you see.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Of course. That’s what I’ve been doing before with little to no eyes on me. If you can’t do it when no one’s watching then you’re not really doing it for yourself.
