Rising Stars: Meet Yuvarani Mohan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yuvarani Mohan.

Hi Yuvarani, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in a small town in India. I had my graduation in Engineering and soon after my graduation, I started working for a software company. After six years of working, I had to quit my job and travel with my husband and newborn to Phoenix, AZ, due to his job. I transitioned myself to be a full-time mom. I have always had a love for food and cooking and knew I wanted to end up working with food in some capacity. I created my Instagram page in 2018 and started posting. It fueled my interest and I started to post consistently from my phone. Soon, I learned the basics of how to use a professional camera from my husband. Until then, I didn’t have any interest in photography and never knew how to use a DSLR though we owned one for many years. I gradually started to post pictures from DSLR and it opened up a whole new world of opportunities. I kept working on my photography skills and it didn’t take me long to start picking up food photography as a profession.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It wasn’t a smooth road. It was hard for me to find time to post consistently when my kids were little. Now that they have gotten older, it has allowed me to spend more time and post consistently on my page. My other challenge was marketing. I am consistently learning more about branding and marketing strategies to obtain new and diverse clients.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I can help you with food photography and styling, brand and product photography, content creation for website and social media, recipe development, sponsored Instagram posts, photoshoots for restaurants. I am always happy to consider travel assignments too. I give great attention to detail. My goal is to create appetizing images that convey the beauty of the food, which creates a fantastic first impression and makes the client happy.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
When I look back, I had a roller coaster ride with my career. Starting from a software engineer, then transitioning to full-time mom and now food photographer. I just listened to what my heart said. When you do something that you love, you feel more fulfilled and it brings happiness which takes you higher.
