Rising Stars: Meet Yesica Montoya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yesica Montoya.

Yesica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2011 my mom and I moved to the United States from Colombia, where we had our own sewing business. After moving to Mesa, tragedy struck in 2015 when my stepfather unexpectedly passed away. Suddenly thrust into the role of provider, I did apply for a job and traveled to California for training. Meanwhile, my mom was having a very hard time without her husband. So, I was thinking hard about how I could keep my mother busy and help her get back on the road to a happy life. While in California, I found a large lot of used sewing machines, and inspiration hit, I bought the machines, loaded them into a trailer, and drove them back to Mesa.

The fact that I never had never pulled a trailer before didn’t stop me, I was willing to do anything to help my mom, then we started a sewing business with the inspiration of making clothes for dogs, that’s when poshdoggies was born, and Bimbo who is my mom’s dog was a big supporter for her in that hard time. After seeing how having a dog helped my mom, I got my dog Nicky soon after. Nicky has become my support system and helps me calm down and take things slow. Nicky has helped my mental health while also inspiring me to move forward with Poshdoggies. Nicky became our little model and the face of the Poshdoggies brand.

Then we made a fashion show in 2016 where different dogs were modeling their outfits. Poshdoggies is the representation of how this little fur child made our life happier.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The challenges are the language, the culture, and the hard work we have to have in order to get what we have now.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I like of me that for every goal I have I work for it and thanks to God I was able to achieve different goals in my live although at a young age. I currently own 3 different businesses.

Who else deserves credit for your story?
For sure my wife has been part of this process, she always supports me in all I want and all the plans I have, even if she would like me to slow down a little, she is always with me in everything I want.
