Today we’d like to introduce you to The Vinyl Faces.
Hello The Vinyl Faces, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
The three of us met in college on the ASU Poly campus in 2019 and started jamming together. We eventually started writing songs, and once we were comfortable, we started getting gigs around Phoenix. Our first show was at the Desert Ridge Marketplace, I think. We then recorded some music, figured out how to use distrokid, and have been doing indie band stuff ever since.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There was a fourth member, and he caused a lot of drama. Eventually, he decided that it would be best if he went his own way, and we’ve been a three-piece since then.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are an alternative/indie rock band. We play music of all styles and don’t like boxing ourselves into a single niche.
I like to describe our sound as “musical whiplash” because of how much variation there is. One song might be bossa inspired, the next one might be hard rock, the next one might be gypsy jazz, and then we might play an improvised blues jam. When we play live, we incorporate improvisation as much as we can and make up songs on the spot.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
We never make set lists for our shows.
