Rising Stars: Meet Tahnee Wilson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tahnee Wilson

Hi Tahnee , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Tahnee. I am a respiratory therapist who was burned out after working in an ICU for the entirety of the pandemic. I wanted so badly to work for myself and escape the medical field but I had no idea how to begin. Around this time, my son was diagnosed with eczema. Desperate for a holistic alternative to what the doctors wanted, I began to look up how to make my own bath and body products for him to see if they helped. My cousin and I went to a coffee date and we started talking about making our own bath and body products. One thing led to another and The Broken Circle Soap Co was born. This business was founded by my cousin and I, but she has since stepped away and I am now the sole owner. We started out working from our homes, expanded into a production studio about 6 months after we launched, and opened a storefront about 4 months after that. It has been a wonderful roller coaster.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has most definitely not been a smooth road. I truly don’t know that entrepreneurship is ever smooth. We start, we fail, we adapt, we fail again and we keep doing that over and over again until we learn what works for our businesses. One of the struggles in the beginning was formulating all the products and having limited space to do so. I am self-taught and was working out of a 10×10 shed. We’ve had product launches that have flopped, products that haven’t been up to par, and most recently, the dissolution of the partnership and transitioning to sole owner. But all of these struggles I have learned lessons and because of them, I can become better.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the Owner, operator, and maker of all things at The Broken Circle Soap Co. This business was built on the idea of breaking cycles. Whether it be transitioning from synthetic skincare to all-natural bath and body care or getting away from the generational traumas that plague us. Here, everyone is accepted just as they are. There are so many of us who are on a healing journey, trying to be better than what we were taught. We just want you to know that you are seen and heard and all of your feelings are valid. We want to build a community that heals from the inside out. Most people hear the business name and assume we are just a soap company, but we are much more. We are known for our foot care line. Continously the best seller month after month, our foot care consists of a foot scrub bar & foot balm that helps heal people’s dry, cracked feet and allows them to have some comfort from the pain that comes with that. We also make soaps, lotions, lip care, beard care, body scrubs, kid soaps and so much more. We specialize in using ingredients from the earth to create products that allow your skin to flourish as it should instead of stripping it like most commercial products do. I am most proud to say that I handmake every single thing we sell with my own two hands and I am completely self taught with no prior experience of doing so.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory… to be honest with you, my childhood was rough. I have blocked out so much of that time due to dissociation that I am just now, at almost 38 years old, starting to remember more of it. But if I had to choose, my favorite would be the memories with my little brother. We were so close growing up and anything that I got to do with him was always a happy moment in my life. I can’t pinpoint one specific event, but I do know that anything I ever did with him, always felt better because he was with me.
