Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Bavishi.
Hi Sophia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began singing at a very young age. I started taking voice lessons around the age of 8 and knew instantly that music was something that I needed in my life. I started writing music in my junior year of high school. A few years later, in January 2021, I released my first single, ya we broke up. I’ve been writing and recording music nonstop since then and have released 5 additional songs. My most recent release, Fragile Heart, came out on October 13 of this year. I took a different approach to the traditional break-up song and wrote this one from the heartbreaker’s perspective. I have another release planned for early next year!
I’ve been performing live throughout Phoenix for a while now but more recently started experimenting with my performances. I have been exploring Ableton Live and found that I enjoy live digital performing and live looping. I love the endless possibilities that I can create while performing with Ableton, and I really like the direction, this is taking me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. For a while, I had no clue what I wanted to do but just knew that I loved music the most and wanted it to somehow play a part in my career. I struggled with figuring out what type of artist I wanted to be and didn’t realize I enjoyed songwriting until later in high school. Before that, I just did musical theatre, and while I loved performing on the stage, it never really felt like the right fit.
It took me a while to get to where I am today, and the type of artist I am now. I also have struggled a lot with my confidence as a musician. This is a competitive industry, and sometimes I let it get the best of me and lose all hope in myself. It is something I have been working on. It’s been hard, but I think I’m getting to a place where I can overcome all the overthinking I do about myself and my potential as an artist. It is such a stressful industry at times. I’m slowly getting to a place where I’m comfortable with where I am at the moment! Last one: We’d love to learn more about your work. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc? What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer/songwriter and live performer. I primarily focus on indie pop and specialize in the Ableton Push 2. Push 2 is a device created by Ableton that is used for live performing. It allows you to live loop and perform through the Ableton daw, basically providing digital accompaniment when I sing. It has endless possibilities and allows to create of so many different sounds. It elevates my music and allows me to have polished and energized performances! I just really love to use it when I’m performing.
I do play piano and can accompany myself on that, but there’s just something so new and fresh about using the Push 2. I really think it’s the new direction for live performances. Not many people are using this when they perform live, so I think it really sets me apart from other singers. I feel I have finally found something that resonates with me. I feel confident when I perform with the Ableton Push 2 and have found I can do so much with it. I’m excited to continue performing with it and sharing my sound with new audiences!
