Rising Stars: Meet Sierra Scriver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sierra Scriver.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Photography has always been a creative outlet for me. Most little girls in my class danced or drew pictures, but for me, I made my friends get dressed up so I could take their photos at our local park. I would use my pink Motorola RAZR; or if I got lucky, I could sneak out with my mom’s 5-year-old point-and-shoot camera that only had pictures from our 2002 family vacation, lol.

3 years into this journey, my business has grown so much and I get to wake up loving what I do every day. Along this journey, I have been able to teach myself almost everything I know, and have met so many other creatives and amazing people I admire so much. I have had the opportunity to travel to different states and countries for my work, which I am so thankful for.

My photography journey has been the one thing I have always loved doing: traveling and adventuring with my clients who turn into some great friends! For me, it’s not just taking some photos and doing work; but creating memories. (With some fun along the way!)

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing comes without obstacles and my journey with photography has never been a smooth road.

When I began my business in college, I had to juggle photography with my school work, and multiple other part-time jobs/internships. Just starting out, I didn’t have everything I needed and of course had to work for it. My journey started from one senior session that semester.

What no one saw behind the scenes either, is the gear I had to acquire from camera/lenses to software (on a college budget!) I was also teaching myself about photography alongside my other classwork. Although I struggled throughout college, never did I think about putting the camera down.

Today, I am thankful for the hard work I put in the past. I work with so many amazing couples, bachelorette’s, businesses, and seniors! My busiest time is during graduation season, where I have over 50 sessions booked in around 3 months every year! During this time, I drive down to the University of Arizona every weekend for senior sessions. Not to mention my sessions booked from other colleges around Phoenix. No days off baby!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a photographer based out of Arizona who specializes in all things fun, wild, and adventurous. But really, I photograph wildly in love couples and some pretty rad seniors. My kind of people are free spirits and aren’t afraid to be who they are. We go on some pretty fun adventures from hiking mountains, to running into the ocean after saying ” I do”, to getting a marg at Illegal Pete’s because why the hell not. I’m not super into the posed, run-of-the-mill photo sessions. We laugh until our cheeks are sore and you can expect to get your feet a little dirty, hair caught in the wind, and make some great memories.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people see just a photographer when they look at me – but what they don’t see is a social media manager, a website developer, a graphic designer, a brand manager. Yes, I have been able to create my entire business on my own, from creating and designing my website to developing and designing my brand!

I hope to one day be able to teach other photographers and creatives everything I have been able to teach myself!
