Rising Stars: Meet Sherice Mangum of Laveen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherice Mangum

Hi Sherice, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my journey in the financial and insurance space when I was 24. I was a mother of 3 small children, studying for my real estate license while working 12-13 hour shifts 3-4 days a week in the Architectural Design world. I would see my children in the morning before they woke and I’d be working so much that I’d get home when they fell asleep.

This was my wake-up call to create my schedule.

Also, this was the time in which I began learning about finance. I didn’t understand taxation, how money grows, debt, retirement, and insurance. Looking at 3 angelic faces, I knew I had to learn and teach these principles to my children. That passion grew into a profession that serves all walks of life 8 years later.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was definitely not an easy road. When I started, I had two toddlers and a newborn. I had to juggle studying, tests, licensing, and being a single mother. Two of my children were kidnapped by their father, and due to that, I had to deal with law enforcement and the judicial system just to get them back and safe. They were abused and treated horribly while in their father’s care. This has caused stress to the children and now require therapy.

In 2021, I lost my father to stage 4 undetected pancreatic cancer. He was my first death claim. Before passing, for 4 months I administered his antibiotics and pain medicine by IV 4x a day in between running virtual appointments and raising school-age kids (K,1, and 2nd grade)

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Throughout the years, I honed my expertise through rigorous training in taxation and insurance. These experiences expanded my knowledge and instilled in me a sense of responsibility towards my clients. Providing financial security is not just a job; it’s a noble mission.

In 2021 and 2022, I was humbled and honored to receive the Outstanding Leadership Award in Finance and Insurance from Money 2.0. This recognition reaffirmed my dedication to excellence and motivated me to continue pushing the boundaries of what I could achieve in this industry.

I specialize in tax and insurance planning and business succession planning. This consists of:

Policy Review and Audit
Asset Exit Strategy
Business Valuations
Business Continuation Planning (Buy/Sell; Executive Bonus)
401K Administration
Defined Benefit Planning
Estate Planning
Retirement and 401(k) Audit
Company Retirement Transition Consultant
Annuities
LTC/Disability/Health Insurance/Fringe Benefits

I am most proud of my children’s understanding of finance in a way most adults don’t. It started with them and morphed into teaching business owners the same.

What separates me from the others is the approach I take when doing planning and how I work with my clients. My recommendations are based on understanding the goals of a business or individual, analyzing the client’s current landscape, and creating a financial blueprint to get them to those goals. I consider the emotions and feelings of why those goals are important and utilize that as the driving force of all plans created. Most importantly, I work together as a team player to the business so they can continue working in their business.
