Rising Stars: Meet Shelsea Herbert of Chandler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelsea Herbert.

Hi Shelsea, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
A tuna sandwich changed my life.

As a teenager, cheese and desserts were my main food groups—delicious, but I felt like garbage.

At a friend’s house, they were making a tuna salad and I needed it. I didn’t get to try any, but I asked my mom for the ingredients and made myself a veggie-filled tuna sandwich on whole wheat. Thats when an addiction was born.

Nutrition became my lifeline. I discovered that taking care of myself gave me a sense of stability and increased confidence. No matter what was going on around me, I could choose what I ate and who I was becoming. I believed that if I nourished my body, I could shape a better future—and it turns out, I wasn’t wrong.

What started as a personal curiosity grew into something much bigger. I began by helping my family, then became a personal trainer, a food blogger, and eventually a health coach. I went on to run a community center focused on supporting people in both body and mind. Today, my work continues to evolve—as I help others reconnect with the practices that keep them nourished, energized, and fulfilled.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Most of the “bumps in the road” were really just growing pains.
I didn’t have a clear roadmap of my vision, but I knew that my knowledge and experience in fitness & nutrition would help many people. My first goal was simple: help three clients at a time. With the support of mentors and some deep mindset work, I started growing into the person I wanted to be—and ended up helping far more than three people.

Along the way, life threw some curveballs; including divorce and moving to a different state. At times it was difficult and humbling — but it gave me the space I needed to grow into the person capable of creating the life I always believed in; for myself and for others.

That growth led me to what felt like a dream job: running a community center where I threw parties and hosted fitness and wellness classes. I gained skills, built confidence, and deepened my sense of purpose—but over time, I started to feel held back.

So I bet on myself. I let go of my comfortable income stream to create Habmapin—a space where people can find real inspiration, sustainable nutrition tools, and results they can trust. More about Habmapin later….

There has been a lot of trial and error in this creation process and I continue to learn new things daily.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I call myself an artist — because the way we live our lives is art.

My primary medium is food. I use nutrition not just to fuel the body, but to support a deeper transformation — one that brings people into alignment with peace, fulfillment, and vitality.

As a Nutrition & Health Coach, I don’t just guide physical change. I introduce people to empowering concepts that reshape how they see themselves and the world. True wellness is not just what you eat — it’s how you live, think, and feel.

Art is everywhere: in the way we speak, the food we eat, the relationships we nurture, the experiences we choose. Building small, intentional habits—like eating well—sets the foundation for a future that aligns with you and your family’s well-being.

I specialize in building healthy habits and have created the company, Habmapin. That name is a shortened version of the phrase “Habit Mapping.” The concept that you can create a better outcome for yourself by intentionally mapping out your daily habits.

Each little habit is like a brushstroke on a canvas, word on paper, flower in a garden, chisel in stone – shaping our lives.

I’m both the artist and the architect of my own life. I create community that actively chooses peace, purpose, and success.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
So many people deserve the credit. They say it takes a village to raise a child — for me, it’s taken many villages at different stages of my transformation.

I wouldn’t be who I am without my family and my parents. To Vince and Victoria for making themselves a tuna salad. To my little sisters, who gave me something to fight for when fighting for myself wasn’t enough. To one of the first adult friends I made (she doesn’t know how important she is). To my roommates and older sisters who listened when my world felt like it was spinning. To my dance friends who celebrated every win — big or small.

To Tialyn, who was my rock through massive changes. To the many coaches who guided me through 2021 and 2022. And to the members of the senior community center I ran — who reminded me what makes life beautiful.

There are so many more and I’ll thank them in person when I can.
