Rising Stars: Meet Sharee James of Chandler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharee James

Hi Sharee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been someone who believes in perseverance, and my journey is a reflection of that. In 2014, I made the bold decision to move to Phoenix with my two boys. Leaving behind a well-paying career and all my family was terrifying, but I knew I needed a change. Despite the uncertainty, I focused on creating a better future for my family.

By 2015, I started my career in the financial industry, which was a turning point for me. Although I didn’t begin as a compliance officer, I worked my way into the compliance field over the years. Today, I’ve been in compliance for the past seven years, and I currently serve as a compliance officer—a role I take pride in because of the impact it allows me to make.

By 2016, my hard work and determination began to pay off. I was able to buy my first home—a brand-new build—for my boys and me, doing it entirely on my own. It was a milestone that reminded me of how far I had come and inspired me to keep striving for more. In 2017, my hard work continued to pay off when I graduated from Phoenix College as the salutatorian of my class and had the honor of delivering the commencement speech. That moment was a turning point for me, showing that perseverance truly does pay off.

Fast forward to 2024, I came up with the idea for Bosses of the Valley—a video series where I highlight successful entrepreneurs and leaders in Arizona. The project has been deeply rewarding. Since its launch in October 2024, Bosses of the Valley has reached nearly 6,000 views and over 130 shares in just two months. The feedback has been amazing, and I’m proud that this platform allows me to inspire others to pursue their goals, embrace their journeys, and recognize the value of perseverance.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped who I am today. When I moved to Phoenix in 2014, I left behind a well-paying career and all my family to start over with my two boys. It was terrifying, and the first year was especially hard. I worked five different jobs because of childcare challenges and changing schedules, but I refused to give up.

By 2015, I found a career in the financial industry, and life began to stabilize. However, 2024 brought one of the hardest times of my life when I lost three family members, including my only little brother. At the same time, I was still dealing with postpartum depression after the birth of my toddler in 2023. Despite the grief and challenges, I refused to let them hold me back.

I leaned into the fire inside me and used it as motivation to create something meaningful. During this time, I launched my first book, The Bad Mom, which encourages moms to embrace their own parenting journeys without feeling pressured by perfectionism or societal expectations. The book also highlights the pressures many moms feel when comparing themselves to others on social media. Instead, it focuses on showing up, being consistent, and trusting yourself as a parent. Writing it was both healing and empowering, and I’m proud to have inspired other moms to feel confident in their choices.

At the same time, I launched Bosses of the Valley, completed my bachelor’s degree (graduating cum laude with a 3.79 GPA), and got my firstborn off to college. Between June and October, I balanced interviews for the series, schoolwork, and the demands of raising a busy toddler—all while managing the day-to-day of being a mom to multiple children. It wasn’t easy, but I reminded myself that timing is everything. Life is short, and even the hardest moments can push us toward creating something incredible.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work for a large financial company as a compliance professional. My role involves ensuring that the business adheres to regulatory requirements and internal policies. I specialize in identifying risks and helping the company stay compliant while balancing the needs of the business. What I enjoy most about my work is helping teams navigate complex situations while maintaining integrity and accountability. I’m known for my neutral and approachable personality, which helps me build trust and foster understanding in a high-stakes environment.

Outside of work, I’m known for being a deeply caring and positive person. Many people tell me I inspire them, and while that humbles me, I believe it stems from my ability to stay optimistic and resilient no matter the circumstances. Life hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve learned to find the good in every situation and use it to move forward.

What I’m most proud of is the life I’ve created for my children. Growing up in a single-mother household, I experienced love and stability, but we moved often, and I attended many different schools. As a single mom myself, I made it my mission to provide my children with consistency. I’m proud that my boys grew up in the same school system, making lifelong friends and knowing they were supported every step of the way. Today, my oldest son is in college, and seeing him thrive has been one of my greatest joys.

What sets me apart is my perspective. I’ve faced challenges, but I don’t let them define me. Instead, I focus on growth and inspiring others. Whether through my professional work, my community involvement, or my role as a mom, I believe in shaping the future we want to see by showing up, staying positive, and never giving up.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If there’s one thing I’d like to share, it’s this: we’re living in a time where creativity is flourishing, but too often, we try to fit ourselves into someone else’s box instead of creating our own. Many people, including myself, hesitate to put themselves out there—whether it’s fear of judgment, how we’ll be perceived, or what people might say.

I want to encourage everyone to push past that fear. You never know what amazing opportunities are waiting for you on the other side. When I started Bosses of the Valley, I was terrified. I didn’t know if people would support it or even pay attention. But once I took that first step, the positivity and fulfillment I’ve experienced have been incredible. I wouldn’t have known that joy if I had let fear hold me back.

Fear can lead to failure or success—but you’ll never know unless you try. Don’t let fear keep you from living your dreams or sharing your unique talents with the world. Take the leap; you just might surprise yourself.
