Today we’d like to introduce you to Sasha Reyes.
Sasha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The first time I realized I wanted to cook for people was at a slumber party in the 8th grade. I had made French toast and eggs and bacon for my friends in the morning and they were raving about how good the food was! It was so fulfilling and validating to me to have people appreciate the thing that I had created. I have dedicated my life to working in the food industry, including attending Arizona culinary Institute, where I graduated in 2011. I went to build my own business empowering women to do what they love to do in the culinary industry!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a young female culinarian, I was met with lots of discrimination in the restaurant industry. Where I experience wage discrimination and sexual harassment. I was also raising 2 young children at the time I graduated from culinary school. I found that the Long hours and late nights were not conducive to motherhood.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m the Executive chef and owner of Artisan personal chefs. An all female team of culinary professionals creating delicious meals and memorable experiences for our clients in their homes!
How do you think about happiness?
I am happiest when I’m able to put smile on other peoples faces. I first experienced that through the power of food and cooking for other others, which is why I’m so passionate about it now.
