Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Hansen.
Hi Samantha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi! I am Sam, a self-employed and self-taught web designer. My career actually started in the janitorial industry.
Back in 2012, I started a professional cleaning service that grew pretty big in the Sacramento area. In 2021, I left that business and moved to Phoenix where I started Sprout Marketing and Advising. In the past, I’d always have friends, family, and colleagues asking business questions.
I LOVE helping people get into entrepreneurship in any way I can. I have degrees in marketing and business management as well. I utilize my education and experience to help others grow their business and it truly gives me such purpose.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh heck no! COVID nearly wiped out my cleaning business. I was able to pull it through the pandemic, but ultimately it was just never the same. And, it was actually my second cleaning business! This time around, I needed something I could do from anywhere without the stress of employees. With my love of helping fellow business-minded individuals, I opted to do marketing full-time.
Even that gave me trouble as it started incredibly slow! These days, I stick to web design and branding. I picked up a side hustle along the way and now do furniture flipping in my off-time. It does wonders for stress, depression, and anxiety. I’m a big advocate for mental health and recommend a side hustle or hobby to everyone.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in super affordable websites (in comparison to agencies) and branding. My prices are a fraction of those big agencies, and I work directly with the business owner to fully understand their business, their goals, history, and brand in order to appropriately build a website or branding that best serves those goals and needs and the message they wish for their business to convey.
A lot of the businesses I work with are solopreneurs, so they don’t have a ton of extra cash flow. I have my business set up to accept financing with reasonable payments to make it easier to access marketing when a client needs it, not when they can save for it.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Furniture flipping has been a Godsend for me during slow times.
