Rising Stars: Meet S.K. Patrick

Today we’d like to introduce you to S.K. Patrick.

Hi S.K., we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey has been shaped by a passion for communications, sports, education, and helping others. I started my career in banking, where I developed a strong understanding of financial literacy and the importance of educating people about money. That experience eventually inspired me to write children’s books that introduce young readers to banking and financial concepts in a fun and relatable way.

From there, I expanded my career into marketing, communications, journalism, and higher education. I’ve worked in university marketing and communications, fundraising and alumni engagement, and sports media, while also writing and producing content across different platforms.Along the way, I became a self-published author and entrepreneur, building Chris Adventure Books around my passion for helping children learn through storytelling.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There have been plenty of setbacks, self-doubt, and moments when I questioned whether I was on the right path. One of the biggest challenges was putting myself out there as an author and entrepreneur. After my first book launch, I came close to giving up because things didn’t happen as quickly as I had hoped.

I’ve also had to navigate career changes and learn how to adapt when opportunities didn’t work out the way I expected. Those experiences taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of continuing to believe in the vision even when the results aren’t immediate.

Looking back, I realize the difficult moments were just as important as the successes. They pushed me to grow, become more confident, and understand that building something meaningful takes time.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work sits at the intersection of communications, marketing, sports media, financial literacy, and storytelling. I have experience in higher education, banking, journalism, fundraising, digital marketing, and content creation. I specialize in taking ideas and turning them into stories, campaigns, and content that connect with people.

I’m also a self-published author and the creator of Chris Adventure Books, a children’s book series focused on making financial literacy fun and accessible for young readers. My background in banking gave me firsthand knowledge of financial services, while my communications and journalism experience taught me how to tell those stories in a way that people can understand and enjoy.

I’m most proud of continuing to build my work despite the setbacks I’ve faced. Becoming an author and entrepreneur was a major step outside of my comfort zone, and I’m especially proud that I didn’t give up when my first book launch didn’t go as planned.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
After my first book launch, I questioned whether becoming an author and building my own brand was the right path for me. It was difficult not to focus on the things that didn’t happen the way I expected.

Instead of giving up, I decided to keep going. That experience taught me that success doesn’t always happen immediately and that sometimes you have to believe in your vision before anyone else does. Looking back, that moment became one of the most important parts of my journey because it taught me resilience and reminded me why I started in the first place.
