Rising Stars: Meet Ryan Sawyer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Sawyer.

Ryan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started out of my house actually. I went to the bank on a Friday afternoon and took out $500 cash and started hitting garage sales, offering up, Facebook anything to find stuff to re-sell.

I then thought about what major golf cities and palm deserts come to mind so on Monday mornings I would leave Phoenix as early as 2 am and head to the desert to find more products to re-sell. I then started an LLC and had my good buddy Rudy my tattoo artist in Dallas Create a logo. Sure enough, here we are five years later with Old Town Golf.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been anything but smooth. I’ve maintained a full-time corporate job and even had as many as three jobs while trying to generate cash flow to scale the business, it’s still hard every day, at one point my daughter was born I don’t think I slept more than 2-3 hours a night max. I would do my side hustle OTG 3 am-6 am.

Teach all day with martin chuck at the Raven golf course and work for a company out of Shanghai in the evenings and be on Zooms late into the night. I also love being a family man more than anything so I always have to have my team around…. my favorite speaker Eric Thomas the hip-hop preacher says you have to want your dream more than you want to sleep.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I mean I’m nobody special and I still have so far and so long to go on this journey. I heard tony robbins say once you have to make the worst day of your life the best day of your life. If you’re seeing a trend here yes I love motivational speakers David Goggins, Jocko, Ed Mylette, etc… anyhow the worst day of my life was 3/17/02 when my dad lost his battle with cancer.

It made me a monster, when you get backed into a corner in life you have to find your way out, mine was to take everything to the extreme. If I was going to work you would not outwork me, if I was in the gym it’s going to be a tough workout and if I was going to a party I would shut down the bar.

Anyhow I figured ok I’m 17 my dad is dead, and nobody is coming to effing save me I better figure this out fast what can I do. I can’t afford college and I hate loans. Let’s just work so I did for the last 20 years 6-7 days a week and I still do. I’m not advising everyone to live like this, but you are 100% in control of your destiny, and nobody is coming to save you.
