Today we’d like to introduce you to Quinlan Hamann
Hi Quinlan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a Phoenix native who has worked in the coffee industry for 13 years. I opened Cactus Cloud to provide a third space for the community, because I have found they are increasingly few and far between. As an artist and musician I would like to promote art and community while offering delicious food and coffee– I see it as a means to pursue fulfillment.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to open my own business. I would not have been able to get Cactus Cloud off of the ground without help from my five siblings who are all part owners. I also could not have gotten to where I am without the experience of running Hava Java (another local coffee shop here in Phoenix). Though there have been struggles, it has been relatively smooth launch. The major struggle was to just get people in the door at first. The biggest hurdle was that Downtown Phoenix is very slow during the summer due to the heat, and this year was especially bad.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make coffee and food. I specialize in espresso and espresso drinks. I think I am still making a name for myself, but I hope that people know me as the kind person who excitedly hands them caffeine. I am proud of our espresso and our cold brew, I believe they both set us apart from others.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The daily small interactions we have with each other seem insignificant, but the cumulative effect of consistently being kind, positive, and engaged with hundreds of regulars truly feels like a meaningful goal. I believe that loneliness and isolation is corrosive and one of the most insidious destroyers of human well-being. We have a biological need for interaction and community– purpose and fulfillment are nearly impossible to obtain without feeling like you are part of a community that you meaningfully contribute to.
