Rising Stars: Meet Phoenix Cordova of Peoria

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phoenix Cordova.

Hi Phoenix, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Magick Mojo started at my kitchen table years ago, teaching my little sister how to empower her life through spiritual practices shared by past generations. Over the years, she quickly became my partner in creating custom healing products and practices aiding the body and the soul. We shared a passion for ancestor rituals and folk magic; we pay attention to moon cycles, burn herbs, and rely on our homemade Florida waters. It is a part of life we want to share with others from all walks of life. After many local stores started providing ethnic products and services in spaces where minorities were underrepresented, we decided Magick Mojo would be that space. We have a variety of oddities and tools for everyone. July will be our second year in retail, and we are excited for more to come.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Working full-time, starting a new business, and raising kids and grandkids, there were many times when I asked myself if I was purposely trying to age early. The answer was that I was trying to live in the present and chase my dreams today, not “someday.” Someday is today for me. It hasn’t been easy to squeeze into this space. Magick Mojo is 100% family-owned, run, non-commercial, up-and-coming, and unique. With many established Metaphysical shops in the valley, we are working hard to get the word out to our community. We want people to know what sets us apart is that we prioritize retailing local, minority, women, and small-owned business products and services. We’re breaking norms. We’re thinking outside the box. We’re spirituality for everyone. We believe everyone deserves to be at peace within themselves, regardless of one’s belief, religion, or spiritual awareness.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Being Spiritual refers to anything of spirit, which doesn’t have a physical presence but is ether and soul. It is energy; it is you! We offer a wide array of quality products and loving energy for all that most feel when they come inside our door. Magick Mojo provides curios, wellness & healing stones, multiple sage types and alternatives, wonderful herbs for teas and workings, Tarot & Oracle cards, Candles, Incense, body care luxuries, Books, Oils, Jewelry, and more. Our gifted readers are experienced and unique and are always ready to assist the collective when necessary. We have partners for Yoga, Reiki, etc. & chances are, if we don’t have it, we will refer you to another place that does! We don’t believe in competition because spirit is within everyone, and we all deserve the opportunity to attain whatever tools we need for growth.

How do you define success?
Building Magick Mojo from an idea to a retail store is a success. That I get to do that with my sister and wife is amazing. Every day we are helping people along on their path to spiritual healing. Each opportunity we have to share love and light is a success. We are looking forward to expanding to a larger retail space to offer more classes and services very soon.
