Rising Stars: Meet Nicholas Pellegrino of Surprise

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Pellegrino.

Hi Nicholas, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
I met my wife when I was 16; we had our first daughter at 18, married by 20. Our first daughter was born pre-mature in Las Vegas, where we lived alone for 8 months while she was treated as healthy enough to drive home with us. Once home, we found a mass on her spine which started the journey of her 5 spine surgeries. Once my daughter was healthy enough, I started focusing my carrier on law enforcement. A previous heart surgery I had disqualified me from typical law enforcement. I worked as a correctional officer in Washington State for multiple years in the particular operation unit. I moved back to Arizona, where I worked as a Public Safety Officer with GCU before starting my own company doing bail recovery. I made over 900 felony arrests in 5 years before moving to the security world full-time. I decided to start my own security company when I noticed the lack of training and professionalism in the guards I saw. I was unable to enjoy myself when I took my family places because I wasn’t confident the security at the door could find the weapon coming in or be able to respond if there was an attack. I decided to start a company that would change private security’s image and offers effective and trained protection.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have worked hard to get where we are and are still in progress. I have had to deal with some of the most complicated tests in my life. We have dealt with corporate espionage, people stealing, spying, and leaving us high and dry. I have a great support system at home and my command staff. I have also developed a lot of connections through networking and our reputation. I am confident we will be the security company in Arizona in less than 2 years.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am most proud of the quality guards we offer. We take our hiring seriously and go through a similar process to local police agencies. We strive to provide a higher quality security service here in Arizona.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those just starting.
If I could go back and talk to myself 3 years ago, I would have told myself to keep my guard up and not be so trustworthy. The security industry is filled with unloyal people, and I wish I knew that.
