Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Rimbergas.
Hi Nancy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a Chicago native drawn to the mythical desert from an early age when visiting with my family. With each visit, my connection to the desert grew. I was (and still am) obsessed with the texture and beauty of the cacti, mountains, and stunning sunsets. Eventually, I leaped and moved to Arizona to live full-time. After years in the beverage industry, I wanted to make a change. When a good friend was diagnosed with melanoma, I learned much about skin health and knew I could make a difference. So much of what we apply to our skin is absorbed. If we were to share body care, we would do it correctly. I wanted to use only clean ingredients and focus on hydration. The dry skin challenge is real! Luckily, I didn’t have to look further than out my window for inspiration. The plants in this fierce desert have been adapting to harsh conditions to survive and thrive. As a result, the hydration they provide is super concentrated and great for keeping skin moisturized. Queue the Desert Aloe Vera, Prickly Pear Cactus, Sonoran Lemons, Jojoba, and Sonoran Spirulina! As a woman-owned and woman-made brand, I’m proud that Earth Based Body uses wild-sourced all-natural ingredients and that every product is cruelty-free vegan.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
That’s funny. Does anyone say that the road has been smooth? The life of an entrepreneur or solopreneur has a baseline of anxiety. There is a new challenge around every corner. One of the more challenging events for us was when our Lippies launch was scheduled for Spring 2020. In a world full of masks, there wasn’t a big demand for beauty balms that highlight your lips and cheeks. Of course, we’re constantly challenged with sourcing ingredients and packaging. We’re committed to reducing our energy footprint, so securing locally sourced options is a big challenge. We work hard to source ingredients as close to home as possible. We also choose the most eco-friendly packaging, including recycled cardboard, sugar cane eco-tubes, and soy ink.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Earth-Based Body is known for delivering dry skin solutions to the desert dryer in all of us. Our mission is to banish dry skin with the most hydrating ingredients on Earth. Hydration is a necessity, not a luxury. Besides creating a collection of luscious body creams, hydrating Lippies, and an iconic luxe hand cream, I’m most proud of collaborating with watercolor artist Christine Arcus on our product packaging. She is a real customer! Christine is a mega-talent who created a series of watercolor paintings inspired by the desert-derived ingredients in every product. I love that when our customers buy some of our succulent skincare, they walk away with a work of art!
How do you define success?
Success is a combination of factors. Firstly, it’s about positively impacting our customers’ skin by providing effective and natural dry skin solutions that celebrate desert ingredients. It is not just about great skincare; it’s also about the artistry that goes into each package, making the Earth-based Based Body experience one that engages all the senses – touch, smell, and sight. Lastly, success also involves staying true to our values of using natural, vegan, and cruelty-free ingredients. We want to continue celebrating the beauty of the desert and its concentrated natural elements in every product we create.
