Rising Stars: Meet Maya Henley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Henley.

Hi Maya, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started off by making decorations for my children’s and other family members’ birthday parties as a hobby. I never really considered myself extremely artistic but I am crafty. I love event planning and interior design as well. During Covid, I needed an outlet to break up the monotony of my day and I started repurposing furniture, redecorating, and so on and decided that I wanted a Cricut so that I could cut my own designs. My husband bought it for me on black Friday as an early Christmas gift and I decided to make gifts for my friends and family. One thing led to another and more people started asking me to make personalized items for them. My hobby organically grew into a business, and here I am a year later customizing anything you can dream of. As my business grew I was stretched to fulfill my customer’s desires. My tagline is “If you can dream it, we can create it,” and I have literally fulfilled every order to each customer’s satisfaction.

I make everything from custom tumblers to glitter snow globe cups, custom crocs, t-shirts, blinged-out wine glasses, blinged-out phone chargers and mirrors, and so much more.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This has definitely been a challenging journey. I have had to think outside of the box in order to make people’s visions come to life. I am a full-time project manager, a wife, and a mother of four and my plate is full. Sometimes it’s challenging to balance being all those things to everyone and still offering stellar service and products in a timely manner to my customers. But my dedication and perseverance have aided in my success in balancing it all. Some days, I cook delicious meals, and other days my family eats leftovers, it’s all balance!

I have also encountered tangible struggles such as space, inventory, capital, price increases, etc. I keep my faith in God and ask him to guide me with every step and so far he has opened many doors and allowed me to be successful.

There are days that I want to cry and throw in the towel, but I have a very incredible support system in my husband, my parents, and my friends and when I need them the most they step in and fill in any gaps I need to ensure my success, I am blessed.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an artist a creative being. I love to create new designs from scratch and I also like to hear a customer tell me what they want and then translate that into the item that they desire.

One of the most asked-for items from my business is custom glitter tumblers (insulated stainless steel cups, with glitter and a custom design, and then sealed). As mentioned before I make various styles of tumblers/cups but I have also created custom domino sets and cases, t-shirts, coffee mugs, iced coffee glass cans, Starbucks snow globe tumblers, and hydro flasks. I also throw unique crafting networking events and offer a great atmosphere and a diverse crowd to escape the everyday hustle and bustle.

The one thing that sets me and my business apart is my service-oriented focus. I put my customer first and always try to underpromise and over-deliver. I like real communication. My clients can call me and we have a design conversation versus a checklist order form. I don’t want to limit my customer’s creativity by putting things in a box.

My favorite item that I have created so far is a custom Lakers tumbler with an actual Nike Air Force 1 shoe topper.

This cup was challenging because I wanted the cup to look like a shoe. It was a labor of love but so worth it.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The sky is the limit in my market because my abilities are diverse.

I am currently working on adding a wholesale component to my personal business to help other crafters like myself source affordable products so that we can keep our pricing and profit margins in line with the current economy.
