Rising Stars: Meet Malikah Hugs of Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malikah Hugs.

Hi Malikah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I didn’t start this journey trying to be anything. I was just a woman trying to hold it together. A single mom, a survivor of a car crash, a woman dealing with trauma, heartbreak, and still trying to show up for life.

In the middle of all that, spirit kept handing me tools. Cacao showed up as medicine when my heart needed grounding. Music found me when I needed a voice. Community found me when I needed belonging. Ancestor work, breathwork, and journaling showed up when I needed guidance and clarity. I didn’t really chase a path, the path revealed itself while I was learning how to breathe again and remember who I am. That’s how Malikah Hugs LLC was born, from real life, real struggle, and real transformation.

Today I facilitate cacao ceremonies, create affirmation based music, guide people through healing rituals, and remind beautiful souls they’re not alone in their journey.
I’m still evolving, still learning, and I’m definitely still growing. But I’m committed to transforming my pain into power and my healing into something that helps others rise too.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Navigating single motherhood, rebuilding my confidence after heartbreak, and facing the parts of myself I used to avoid has certainly been a journey. I battled anxiety, financial/housing instability, spiritual disconnection, and deep exhaustion. Although it hasn’t been a smooth road, every rough patch became part of the medicine I now carry to hold space for myself and others.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m the founder of Malikah Hugs LLC, a wellness and creative arts company where I combine ceremonial cacao, affirmation based music, and guided rituals to support emotional and spiritual healing.

I’m known for creating safe, intentional spaces where people can breathe, reconnect with themselves, and feel seen without judgment. I’m also known for my affirmation song created for drivers with anxiety/fear. What sets me apart is that my work comes from lived experience. Every ceremony, every song, every offering is rooted in my own healing journey.

I’m most proud of blending spirituality, creativity, and community care in a way that feels authentic, culturally grounded, and deeply human.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
My biggest resources are my spiritual practices ie. daily cacao, intuitive journaling, breathwork, and connecting with my ancestors. Those keep me grounded more than anything.

I also draw inspiration from books like Sacred Woman by Queen Afua. But ultimately, my best guidance comes from slowing down, listening inward, and trusting spirit.
