Rising Stars: Meet Love Connection Dog Rescue

Today we’d like to introduce you to Love Connection Dog Rescue.

Hello Love Connection Dog Rescue, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Love Connection Dog Rescue was started in 2019 with our very first dog adoption. Since 2019, we have adopted out over 1,000 puppies, adult dogs, dogs with medical challenges, and more.

We offer a “Last Litter” program where we take in pregnant moms, help them through their delivery, care for their babies, and spay the moms when they are ready. All moms and babies then find their forever homes.

We are a foster-based rescue which is especially helpful as our foster parents can speak to the personalities and characteristics of the furry members they host in their homes.

We have many “foster fails,” or “foster gains” as we also like to call them, which is when our foster families fall in love with their foster pup and realize they just can’t give them up.

We are the type of people who consider animals part of our families for life, and those are the people we look for to foster and adopt our dogs.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a foster-based rescue as previously mentioned, it is challenging to spread the word about fostering and the great need we have.

When we have a pregnant mom come to us, that mom can have up to 12 puppies- that’s a lot of fosters to find for just one dog! Love Connection provides all of the materials needed to foster- we just ask that our fosters provide the love and safety that some of these pups have never felt.

An additional challenge is funding for materials. With Parvo and Distemper on the rise, it is not uncommon that we drain our bank account to save the life of just one dog that is suffering from one of these diseases.

Donations of food, supplies, kennels, etc. are so beneficial to help our rescue take in more dogs.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Love Connection Dog Rescue, we are most proud of the bond that we make with our families who adopt our dogs. We stay in contact to ensure all is going well for the family and our dogs.

We believe that training for all dogs is a necessary component. At LCDR, we have a list of highly trained professionals to help deliver training to the pups and the humans- dogs typically thrive in an expected environment and it is important that we give everyone the opportunity to be the best versions of dogs and dog owners they can be.

We are proud that we have volunteers who jump in where necessary. We ensure all dogs are vaccinated and microchipped to help keep all dogs safe. We have fosters who will take in dogs from hoarding situations, mamas who need a safe place to feed their babies, and dogs who could not survive without medical care.

It truly takes a village to save as many dogs as we can and educate others about the importance of spaying, neutering, and training all pets.

What do you think about happiness?
We never really know the circumstances in which these dogs come from- we can only imagine the impact that we make on them is great. We are the happiest when we see dogs interact with their new families and lick the cheeks of the kids they are now going to protect and be best friends with.

When you look into the eyes of a mama who is nursing her puppies who could not have enough food just for herself last week, we can feel her saying thank you. When we bust a dog out of the county and give him a warm and safe place to let him just be a dog- we know they are thankful.

There is a lot of heartbreak in rescuing animals and we wish we could save them all. We hold onto these moments where we know we are making a difference in the lives of as many dogs as we can.
