Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily Richbourg.
Hi Lily, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started creating resin home goods in 2019 and selling them in 2020. I love the science of two liquids mixing to create a solid (in literally any shape you can think of), and I can add almost anything to enhance the piece! I mostly pick, press, and dry flowers and leaves to incorporate into my creations. Still, I’ve laminated prints/artwork and used dyes, mica powders, and glitters to change the color of the resin, as well as materials like dried fruits, sand, shells, and crystals! I’ve expanded my business to include prints and ceramics that I make 🙂
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It’s been an adventure of ups and downs! I’ve tried juggling two jobs while creating art and focusing on my art full-time; neither choice was suitable, and it took some adjusting. I dove into markets and pop-ups in 2021, where I found a happy place in my business. I feel I’ve seen a balance, but I want to keep expanding and growing my community!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
I work full-time at a marketing firm and create when I have the time and energy. I create digital campaigns for small businesses so that they can keep up with and succeed like the big box stores! This helps immensely in my business because I gain perspective in helping small businesses while also being one myself. In my small business, I am known for my Disco Decor! I love making disco mushrooms, cacti, and pumpkins (seasonal!) and displaying them front and center in my market setups! I get lots of people saying they’ve seen me before and are always drawn to the sparkle and shine ✨ I feel I stand out because I make the molds for the resin pieces I create, meaning they are one-of-a-kind and replications of vintage and thrifted glass! No two pieces are ever the same, even if they’re the same shape. I love experimenting, seeing what’s possible, and creating something new each time!
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I am naturally an introvert, so I’m more reserved, but I love people, and I’m very friendly and somewhat goofy! I love participating in markets because I can be myself and share my love of creating art! This goes a long way with people; when you’re excited about what you’re making and selling, it’s contagious, and others feel excited.
