Rising Stars: Meet Kimble Johnson of Chandler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimble Johnson.

Hi Kimble, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got my start growing up in Saginaw Michigan when I developed a skill for writing rap lyrics when the hip hop culture was still at its adolescence stage. I didn’t grow up on the music I grew up with it and it became a passionate love affair. Djing became a craft that came next. I would DJ house parties and school dances. Would DJ a dance and than have to battle in a freestyle competition after the dance in the parking lot. The city I grew up in didn’t have many resources or avenues for inspiring music artists. Me and Stevie Wonder hail from the same side of town and city. But it was tough to find your way out thru music. Daniel Heights apartments is where I lived the first 12 yrs. of my life. It was like a village. The elders watched over you as a child. As you get older you make the decision to go by what they taught you or you wonder in the devils playground. My mother who is a very strong woman overcame addiction along with my step father and her, my step father and younger brother moved across town. Still had family and friends I knew my short life since preschool there so you couldn’t keep us away. Eventually drugs and gangs became my life the love affair for music only grew as I got older. Noticed the profits from hosting parties we’re pretty good so event promoting also became focus around this time me and my younger cousin Shannon would record demos sharpening our rap skills. I would never forget when we took our demo to our grandmothers after we finished and how excited and proud her and my aunties and uncles were. That feeling of having my family proud of us is one of my biggest motivations to this present day. Street life got the best of us though. My cousin is now serving a life sentence and has been in prison 24 yrs. I was in and out until I followed Gods steps. I relocated to Holland Mi with my wife who’s successful in the beauty industry now. We wanted a better life for the family. I landed a job at a factory where I would work the next 5 yrs. before going out Ill for two yrs. And then returning for one more. This is where me and my partner Keith Dandridge aka Kong The Producer met. While being out of work God gave me the vision and made it clear why I had to sit down. Event promoting is what I was supposed to be doing. Put on events in West Michigan that featured unsigned music artists. The event grew into something looked forward to. At the time me and Keith would talk every day about how we should take our destiny in our own hands and escape the time clock life which was taking over our life. Pandemic shut me out and that’s when I decided I will never give no one the power over me again that another’s business had over me. I took the knowledge I had and searched for more and Self Fed Entertainment was founded. Keith decided to join me as partner/artist. He joined me out here in Arizona earlier this year and we are making a buzz thru AZ and across the nation with his new single and video titled Social Media. Arizona has shown us so much love and are families are happier with all this sunshine and beautiful vibes every day. We have been joined by and welcomed by other artists as well as the community. Arizona is where God lead me to add my gift to the world and it couldn’t have been a better place.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Been rough at times but my grit keeps me in it. God built me rugged. Survived a stroke, and a heart attack. Had to learn to walk and talk again. Now I’m in the gym every morning working out like nothing ever happened. Came to AZ with no fan base and pretty much no support in the music business and won over fans and befriended new colleagues from all walks of life.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an executive producer/artist manager and c.e.o of Self Fed Entertainment. We are an independent music label. We also offer marketing, song writing, production, graphic designing, merchandising and PR service for independent musicians. We specialize in the development of artists who are dedicated in furthering their music career. We also host live entertainment events concerts, Comedy shows party planning. Not only for ourselves but also for hire to organize these events, I am most proud of not letting all the setbacks that flew at me destroy my purpose. Faith had me and my family pack up and move to AZ and it has been a blessing to be around all the bright vibrant spirits I have come to known. We are known for our professionalism and different sound when it comes to the music. All our artists Kong The Producer, 3rd Day, Biggz are unique in their own lane of creativity. It’s allot of copying going on right now. The latest trendy sound. If you look at the icons they always came out and stuck out because they were innovators.. I noticed every time someone here social media by Kong The Producer they are instantly stunned. Our visuals are creative and outside the box. See for yourself.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To focus on and depend on myself. I came to realize how I was holding myself back depending on others business. We all have something God put us here to give to the world. When the pandemic hit it left me not knowing what would become of the job I had or other businesses I was involved in that wasn’t mine. I was all on the government’s decisions and whoever else. I know with Self Fed Ent the decision comes from me and my partner. Things have been working out for the best this way and no one decisions are no longer holding me back.
