Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsi Nymon.
Hi Kelsi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I come from a family of artists and creative thinkers. From woodworking, painting, jewelry making, musicians, and singers. I myself briefly attended art school but swapped studies for something more conventional.
I was in my late 20’s when I started my first business. I was happily engaged, working at a decent office 9-5 job. But I didn’t have a creative outlet anymore. I knew I wanted to connect with people and somehow make an impact, but I was lost as to how. I called my aunt who has made jewelry probably longer than even I know, and she helped me with resources, how to get started, what to use, where to learn. And from there, I took off running and haven’t looked back once.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
A really difficult thing for me to overcome when I was first starting out was getting caught up in the comparison game. You really have to have blinders on to not get distracted by what everyone else is doing and their success and solely focus on what you are doing, your vision, and making it happen. Too often, I see other small business owners, especially in the arts, crafts, or jewelry industries, feel less than because they are too busy watching what everyone else is doing. But they themselves are also great and have wonderful offerings, but they can’t see it yet until they put their own blinders on. Just keep doing you!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My business name, Más Corazón, literally translates to “more heart.” My goal is to ultimately create a community that acts with more heart and more compassion for one another, as we all have different experiences as humans.
Even though I make and sell jewelry and other things, my real goal is to spread acceptance and love for one another through arts and crafts
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Having a strong message in this day and age can really feel like a risk. But at the end of the day, the stronger and more authentic your message is, the more people who identify with you will be attracted to you or your business. As long as your message isn’t harmful to others, I say voice your perspectives respectfully! You’ll be surprised how empowering it is and how many people relate to you!
