Rising Stars: Meet Kayla Benoit of Scottsdale- McCormick Ranch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Benoit.

Hi Kayla, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began Sonoran Swirls in March 2025 after several months of financial stress due to my husband getting laid off following a horrific car accident my family experienced shortly after giving birth to our 3rd daughter. It felt like we were stuck in a hamster wheel. Friends of mine suggested I start a bakery, knowing both my husband and I love to cook/bake. Long story short, what started out as a lemonade stand with me and my girls while my husband did Uber has now turned into this whole Cinnamon Roll brand! It’s been a major blessing in our lives and has allowed us to move forward and persevere. It’s become a real life classroom for our girls who we homeschool. It’s taught us resilience, faith, and how to spread joy to others even when life gets hard. We have collaborated with other businesses as well! Sonoran Swirls is available at Farmer’s Markets, Arcadia Meat Market in Phoenix, J&B Family Farms in Mesa, and coming soon to The Scottsdale Resort & Spa, and Fashion Square Mall-Retail Therapy, and Desert Bloom Boutique in September 2025!!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of my own personal struggles have been mostly mental, and believing I’m good enough and also learning a lot on how to effectively run a business. I’ve never pursued anything with such passion before beside being a mom!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The thing that I am most proud of is my family, my marriage, and my faith. The fact that we get to run this business as a family is such a blessing and trust in God as he has orchestrated every step of the way! I am a homeschool mom and so starting Sonoran Swirls has been my direct answer to prayer to help my family while also staying rooted at home.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I am the oldest of 3, grew up in Southwest Michigan. I was always an overthinker and searched for deep meaning in everything. I enjoyed volleyball, playing in the middle school band, going to my youth group, I was always family oriented. As a young adult my husband and I got married at 19 in October 2014, and started our family a couple years later. We moved to Arizona in May 2021. I’ve always loved baking but the passion really took off during my 3rd pregnancy when I started taking homesteading more serious.
